Message From The President
I would like to thank all of you for your participation in making the Bake Sale held at Macclesfield Park in October and the Fall Card and Game Party held at Christine’s Restaurant in November a huge success. We earned over $2,000 for both events to donate to the charities we nominated for 2013-2014. The spirit in which you all worked together as a team is truly what is so wonderful about being a member of our club. Congratulations to every member of the LMWC!
Wrapping up all the cookies, brownies, biscotti, and bread was a lot of fun, but it was very time-consuming. Valerie Mix hosted the “wrapping party” on Friday afternoon and Ellie Koerner, Jean Spoors, Mary Lou Sweeney and Betty Williams were the volunteers who worked with Valerie and me to wrap and organize all the delicious goodies you so kindly baked for this event.
On Saturday morning, we started at 8:30 am and left the field at approximately 4:30 pm. We decided to cut the bread loaves up in slices so it would sell quicker, which turned out to be a smart decision. It was a lesson we learned because parents and kids on a soccer field tend to eat on the run. We also sold some of the brownies and larger cookies individually or in packs of two or three. Cupcakes with chocolate frosting, however, didn’t sell as well as the vanilla frosted cupcakes. Unfortunately, as the day got warmer, the chocolate started to melt. The men we approached were especially generous. When we told them we were selling baked goods to support “Wounded Warriors,” etc., from the money we earned that day, they were very kind and graciously donated a dollar or sometimes five dollars without buying anything.
For those of us who were on the field that beautiful autumn day, I can honestly say we felt very proud of our effort to support the LMWC.
The funds the club raised at this year’s Fall Card and Game Party were the most ever earned at one event. We sold 97 tickets this year compared to 84 tickets sold last year; this past Spring, we sold 86 tickets. Needless to say, the word has gotten out that the LMWC puts on a great party!
We had fifteen beautifully wrapped theme baskets, thanks to all of you, to raffle in the Chinese auction that was held that day. Thanks to Benita Kelley, she calculated the number of tickets in each bag by percentage to determine what baskets were the most popular. The top three baskets were: #1, the Grand Prize basket of a one hundred dollar bill and a beautiful orchid plant; #2, the Italian basket; and #3, the Wine and Cheese basket. (For more details about the other baskets, contact me.) The analysis Benita prepared will be valuable information in planning next Spring’s Card and Game party to be held on Monday, April 7, 2014.
Mary and Frank Fazzalore were the big winners. Frank won the 50/50 raffle drawing and received $211.50 and Mary won the Grand Prize raffle basket of $100 and a beautiful orchid plant. Congratulations, Mary and Frank! You deserve to be winners after all the support you have provided to the club throughout the years.
Aileen Koopman was also a big winner and she won the most raffle baskets. The three baskets she won were: the “Sweets” basket; the “All Things Tea” basket; and the “SPA” basket. Good for you, Aileen and congratulations to you, too!
Everyone likes to win prizes and especially winning money. Let’s keep that in mind when planning events in the future. There were also a lot of door prizes to give away and why we saw so many happy faces. The positive comments we received from guests when they left the restaurant that day were a reflection of a job well done by all the members who worked so hard to support a fun event.
Now that the trees are bare and the weather has gotten colder, the holidays are just around the corner. I wish you and all your families a Happy Thanksgiving, a Happy Hanukkah, a MeleKalikimaka and a HauoliMakahikiHou that is filled with peace and good tidings.

THE GRACE KELLY EXHIBIT
On Thursday, November 14, 2013, at 10:30am, 11 members of the Lower Makefield Woman’s Club met at The Michener Museum
in Doylestown to view the celebrated Grace Kelly exhibit. Hollis Cohen, Marylin Hankins, Benita Kelley, Ellie Koerner, Aileen Koopman, Linda Lee, Doris Long, Daphne Mroz, RoseAnn Palestro, Lenore Rosen, and Marcia Silbe met in the lobby, and then were allowed to enter the exhibit. They were each given audio tour equipment which enabled them to tour the exhibit at their own pace, while providing detailed information about each item on display. There were many of Grace Kelly’s gowns and dresses, photos from all the stages of her life, letters and notes written
to her, and videos of her as a young girl with her family, as well as her marriage to Prince Rainier, and later movies of the royal couple with their children.
After enjoying the exhibit, the group met for a cozy lunch at the Pineville tavern. It was an enjoyable nostalgic experience. Thanks to Aileen Koopman for arranging the tour and securing the tickets.

The “Crafts to Sell” group continues to have fun making new and interesting
crafts. Though crafting talent is not necessary, any help a member can provide
to the rest of the group would be very much appreciated. Everyone is welcome
