March: Medium Term plan, weekly plan, daily plan and letter to parents
Dear Parents,
In March, we will be covering all areas of play within the following topics: Springtime, growing, yellow, role play, Mother’s day, St. Patrick’s day, Holi, Last Supper, Palm Sunday, wheelchair use, Down’s Syndrome, different sizes, junk modelling and construction
The free-flow areas of play are:
- communication, language (listening, understanding, attention & speaking)
- physical development (gross motor, fine motor, health and self-care)
- personal, social and emotional development (self-confidence, awareness, feelings, behaviour, relationships)
- literacy (reading, writing, pre-writing skills and mark-making
- mathematics (number, shape, space and measure)
- Understanding the world (communities, the world and technology)
- Expressive arts and design (exploring and using media and materials and being imaginative)
Nothing is forced or pushed. Each of this topic areas and development areas are left out for the child to explore independently. At suitable times, when the child brings the activity to the carer, the activity is extended in some way by the carer. The carer spends time in observation of play before ‘jumping in’ in order to establish that the child is in control of the activity and what is happening rather than the adult. This means that the child is personally involved in her or his active learning. This can be done in every stage of development and contributes to a confident, well-rounded child who is a self-assured decision maker and problem solver. The activities can be subject to change depending on the needs of the individual child. (No plan is set in stone). The purpose of this document is to provide each individual an idea of what goes on within these walls… It will also help you to talk to your child about what is about to / has already / happened
