Win Millions in Michigan Government Contracts

You served your country with pride, honor, and distinction. The nation is grateful for your sacrifices, and so is the State of Michigan. That’s why Governor Jennifer Granholm and Michigan legislators adopted legislation encouraging business owners who are service-disabled veterans to bid on state contracts, extending a 10% pricing preference.
The state’s portfolio of 1,200 contracts valued at more than $19 billion offers a wealth of opportunity for all Michigan business owners. Your business may provide the state with a single item worth a few hundred dollars or may fulfill a multiyear contract valued at hundreds of millions of dollars. A range of opportunities is available. Visit for information about how your company can compete.
• Click on “Vendor Information” to register as a vendor, research existing contracts, and review and respond to invitations to bid.
• Follow the “Veterans” link for additional pointers.

Team Players
Veterans are accustomed to working in teams to accomplish goals. In the military, you may have to rely on your colleagues for your life. A favorite quote of many sailors is: “On the strength of one link in the cable dependeth the might of the chain.”
Recognizing that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, companies are investing heavily in team-building training to leverage the skills of all team members and achieve a force multiplier on human assets. The military lives this every day and veterans can come into your company and instantly add team effectiveness to your organization.

A Few Good Men and Women: Employing Veterans
According to Labor Trends, one of the biggest components of increased production is the labor workforce. As many are painfully aware, it’s not as easy as it used to be to get good, experienced employees in healthcare, technical fields, and construction. The baby boomers are starting to retire, and our workforce is being depleted. Often new hires have no experience and it takes time to get the experience necessary to operate efficiently.
A good source of new recruits might be the men and women arriving in our hometowns from their tours of active duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other places. There are many reasons why these individuals are good candidates to fill these vacancies, but the biggest may be the incredible technical training that they have received. Other good reasons are that military life and structure has taught them to be hard working, responsible, and disciplined, as well as good listeners.
