MAPS 2018 Renewal Strategy and Mission

Dear MAPS Sponsor:

Thank you for your support of the Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety (MAPS). Your contributions to MAPS helps the community’s efforts to advance safe care everywhere. MAPS has provided a forum for community collaboration on safety since 2000. I am writing today to ask for your continued support as we look ahead to help health care organizations, patients, families, residents and consumers co-produce safe care that fosters dignity, equity and positive health outcomes.

Locally and nationally, patient safety leaders have been reflecting on the progress made in the last decade and a half. While we celebrate the many successes of prevented harm to those receiving care, we acknowledge that we have much more to do. Don Berwick, MD, the former leader of IHI and CMS, noted recently that a reset in patient safety is badly needed. This need to re-energize the pace of improvement, coupled with an uncertain policy environment, makes your support of MAPS all the more critical.

2017 was a pivotal and exciting year as MAPS formed a new strategic alliance with Stratis Health. This new partnership will strengthen each organization’s capacity to advance safety, with special emphasis on elevating the patient’s voice for safety in all settings of care. In the coming year, MAPS intends to expand its recent work supporting patient, family and resident engagement and will build capacity to create meaningful patient partnerships to improve safety. In October 2018, MAPS will host its 9th biennial conference. This popular event features national speakers and breakout sessions covering safety topics and best practices across the continuum of care.

As part of our mission to advance safe care everywhere, all MAPS materials are available to everyone in the community. Please visit our websites at www.mnpatientsafety.org, www.includealways.org, and www.ownbestmedicine.mn to take advantage of these resources.

MAPS is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that relies on the engagement of health care and community leaders in designing and implementing our work, and in securing the resources to make it happen. Your active commitment demonstrates your dedication to safety and your willingness to recognize that safety is advanced best when approached collaboratively. Thank you. Your organization will soon be receiving your 2018 invitation to continue to partner with MAPS by supporting the organization and its activities. We hope you will continue to advance safe care.

Sincerely,

Marie Dotseth
