Directory of Support Services

Purpose

The purpose of the Directory of Employment Support Services is to provide those people working in the services with information to feel informed of other services in their area. The focus is on providing operational staff with links to other operational staff to better inform them of what else is available to the people they support. To offer them the information to enable them work in partnership with other providers. This document is not designed for people who use the services.

To inform this the information is based on the sharing of names in roles, not just a title of the role, with emails and direct line numbers to give a more direct access route to those people working face to face with service users. Any information within the document has been provided by the service and therefore is limited to the information that has been shared.

The Directory is seen as a starting point and is a work in progress. To support this there needs to be ownership of this document by the IAPT Commissioner or an agreed 3rd party who will be responsible for the updating of the document. It will be the responsibility of individuals to keep the assigned owner appraised of any changes or additional information to be inserted or removed from the document.

Background

The rationale for developing this resource was the development of the new Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Services (IAPT), which give regional coverage to the East of England. It was recognised that with a significant increase in the numbers of people working within employment services and the change in approach to mild to moderate mental health conditions there was a need to ensure staff were better informed of the services available locally.

To do this a series of IAPT and Employment Process Mapping Workshops were facilitated by the Regional Employment Team (RET). Whilst the title of the workshops suggests that the focus was on IAPT the overarching mental health continuum was considered, from in work and becoming unwell to never worked due to a mental health condition.

The aim of workshops was

  • To bring together partners who offer employment support to people with mental health conditions across a number of agencies to familiarise them with other services and individuals in their area and what they offer.
  • To develop a Directory of Support across each geographical area to include name, role, contact details and organisation outcomes.
  • To process map individuals’ routes from referral onwards, identifying barriers, multiple referrals and reasons for them, agree possible solutions and future partnership working.
  • Provide a forum from which to develop a local network.
  • Offer resources to support employment outcomes

At each workshop delegates were given the opportunity to identify their personal outcome for the day and through the evaluations it is apparent that the majority of these were met. The above aims were identified by the RET to support each geographical PCT area.

The workshops were designed to provide networking opportunities with a view to developing local employment and mental health networks. A number of areas are in the process of developing them.

Commissioners were invited to take the process mapping information away to use locally to develop service user pathways, consider gaps in services and develop partnership agreements.

Resources were available on the day to enhance support available to providers including training information, DVDs and local service information.
