Environmental credentials:
Honda's European factory environmental objectives are broken down into four key areas which are:
  • Energy: Global Honda has set a target of 20% energy efficiency improvement across all operations by 2010 compared to 2000. Honda in Europe has already exceeded this target achieving a 35% energy efficiency improvement.
  • Waste: HUM has set a target of zero waste to landfill by 2010. HUM measures waste as a total and per car. In 1995 HUM sent 60kg of waste to landfill per car. In 2006, this has reduced to 7kg.
  • Hazardous materials: Honda is already achieving all the requirements regarding end-of-life vehicle legislation which aims to eliminate heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chrome by 2007. In addition, Honda factories are continuing to reduce VOC (solvent) emissions.
  • Certification: HUM is certified to ISO14000 and EMAS standards and has encouraged all its suppliers, around 80%, also to become certified.
