Here is the Manual Council Agenda for tonight:

1. Mental Health Pass Follow-up

Dawkins gave the Manual Council feedback on Mental Health Pass to Student Council. Student Council expressed still wanting to support mental health and student advocacy. Student Council does not want to move forward with the Mental Health Pass intervention at this time.

Hamlett proposed doing a pilot with select students, possibly determined by SST. Council discussed various implications of different student needs and situations. Council discussed teacher’s interventions, student advocacy and individual interventions for students as options to consider when implementing a different option.

How do we communicate who is responsible for following up with students when they need support? What is our protocol? Do we email instead of sending a pass?

Other resources for students, office hours, and other resources if we are not available should be posted near social work and psychologist offices.

2. Planning for Manual McAuliffe Manual Council Visit

McAuliffe is promoting Manual transition with enthusiasm and there are instructional implications with this transition. We want to meet students and staff and promote a positive transition. We want students, staff and community to feel positive and be able to talk about it. Areas where we can partner with McAuliffe are already being identified. We want to be thoughtful about this transition. Manual Council will need to look at our calendar and plan a visit or breakfast at McAuliffe.

November 9th for McAuliffe visit in the morning, Dawkins will send out an Outlook invite

3. MM Visit planning with plus and deltas

Hopes and Positives: Alignment: Doug Clinkscales has an Athletics Alignment Outline. Reducing costs for staff and resources that would be shared between schools. Clarification that McAuliffe transition will look like more of a merger than a campus share. We are looking to forge a successful relationship between the schools and build up for MedSchool and the Tech pathway. Highlight multiculturalism, diversity and become a global citizen. Bring opportunities beyond the common core with arts, languages and other programing. Manual as a center for elite post-secondary recruitment and prepare students for success and college going culture.

Fear and Challenges: Differentiation with students coming in at a very high level and this leading to tracking for students. McAuliffe is not currently doing math tracking. Parent influence/push on programing and priorities. Shared spaces with elective classrooms and specialty classes, library, computer labs, auditorium, lunches, separate bells, all space issues for shared spaces. Safety concerns with different access points, emergency drills, evacuations, morning drop offs. Equity of resources and differentiation between ‘have and have nots’. Concerns about racism and equal representation for all students and parents.

Last time Walter asked: How can I help at Manual? Different ways that the community can help.

We want to congratulate the distinguished teachers that will be recognized at tonight’s meeting and understand if they are unable to attend.
