No. 07/2016 15 July 2016
Dear Colleague,
Manpower - New Short Term Contracts – South Shields, Warrington, Canterbury & Doncaster
Manpower has confirmed that short term contracts are now going to be implemented in Shields, Warrington, Canterbury and Doncaster to plug a significant resource gap due to heavy call queues.
The short term contracts will be on a 6 months basis and Manpower have stated they are specifically looking for a ‘different’ kind of recruit who is interested in obtaining call centre experience but not necessarily a career. As such they are actively looking for leavers in schools and college that may be attracted to this kind of work and short term contract.
All contracts will be PBA and paid £1 an hour higher than the current rate per site apart from Canterbury where they will be paying £1.50 extra i.e. normal PBA £8 per hour – STC £9.50 per hourBonus will not be the same but will be lower as the STC employees will not be expected to rotate onto different jobs and acquire different skills, but will be working exclusively on Retensions.
Pay rates per hour are as follows - all attract a £2,925k bonus
Doncaster - £8.50
Warrington - £8.50
South Shields - £8.20
Canterbury - £9.50
Recruitment will commence in Doncaster & Canterbury on 18 July and rolling out to the other sites over the next few weeks.
After 6 months Manpower has stated that the STC employees will either leave Manpower or they could be retained but would need to revert back to the lower PBA standard rate of pay.
The sick, late, performance process has been amended to be more stringent although conduct will be unchanged.

The CWU have expressed dismay at the introduction of these new STC’s and have pointed out that potentially this will result in 3 different Manpower rates of pay on a site which will cause confusion and ill feeling amongst our Manpower members.
It has been agreed to monitor the situation and to follow up with a further meeting in a few weeks' time.
As soon as further information becomes available branches will be updated.
Any feedback or comments should be addressed to Sally Bridge,
Yours sincerely
