2018MARITIME MITE SHOWDOWN

RULES AND INFORMATION

1)Manitowoc County Youth Hockey Association (MCYHA) has adopted a zero tolerance policy. Abusive and aggressive language will not be tolerated by spectators, parents, coaches or players. Anyone deemed to be in violation of this policy may be asked to leave the arena.

2)Managers should check in with the Tournament Director (Sherrie Pinkerton, ) at the registration table prior to the team’s first game. We will not be checking CEP cards for coaches or birth certificates for players.

3)The tournament will have 3 divisions with 3 games guaranteed for each team.:

a)The Red Division is recommended for players who are 7 or 8 years of age as of December 31, 2017. (Players born in 2008 and 2009.) Younger, skilled players may play up at the discretion of their parents and coaches.

b)The White Division is recommended for players who are 7 to 8 years of age as of December 31, 2017. (Players born in 2008 and 2009.) Older, beginner players or younger, skilled players may play at the discretion of their parents and coaches.

c)The Blue Division is recommended for players who are 5 or 6 years of age as of December 31, 2017. (Players born in 2010 and 2011.) Younger players may play at the discretion of their parents and coaches.

NOTE: Please contact the MYHA Mite Director (Jason Suchomel,) regarding players born in 2006 or earlier.

4)Every team should be at the rink at least 30 minutes before your scheduled time to play. We will start the next game immediately after the game before is finished. Teams will have 2 minutes to warm-up on the ice before play begins.

5)Every team will play 3 games.

6)Game Format:

a)Blue and White Division games will be played cross ice.Red Division games will be played half ice.

b)Each game will consist of three 13.5-minute, run-time periods with a 1-minute intermission between periods.

c)There will be no time outs.

d)A horn will sound every 90 secondsto indicate a line change. Players coming on the ice must skate behind their own net before entering the play. In the case of half ice games, the team with the further distance to travel to their net may circle in front of their net below the faceoff dots upon agreement by both teams’ coaches prior to the game.

e)After a goal, the ref will have a face off at center ice. If there is no ref for the game, the players from the scoring team must retreat and tag their own net before pressuring the puck. The players from the team that was scored on should take the puck out from the net, and skate with the puck behind their net before attacking offensively.

f)When the goalie freezes the puck, the attacking team must retreat to center ice and wait for the other team to begin advancing the puck before pressuring

g)Intermediate -sized nets will be used for all games.

h)Blue and White Division teams will play with 3 skaters and 1 goalie with a player stick. Goalie must stand, laying down in front of the net will not be allowed. Red will play with four skaters and a goalie (in goalie pads).

i)MCYHA 2nd year Squirts, Peewees, Bantams, High School or Adults will act as unofficial refs.One coach from each team may be on the ice with a helmet if desired.

j)The ref will take care of face-offs, keeping the nets aligned and keeping the play moving. They are not official referees; however, they will call blatant penalties such as slashing or body-checking that are deemed dangerous. If this happens, the offending player must leave the ice for the remainder of the shift and be replaced by a new player.

7)Spectators (parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.) must be in the spectator areas of the rink and are not permitted to be on the ice, in the bench area, or by the scorer’s booth except during medal presentations.

8)Help from coaches in moving the bumpers before/after games is greatly appreciated.

9)Locker room assignments will be posted at the rink during the event. There will be more than one team using each locker room for a game. Teams are responsible for leaving locker rooms in a clean and orderly manner.

10)Managers will be provided with gifts bags for each player upon checking in.

11)Every player in the Maritime Mite Showdown will receive a participation medal.Parents are welcome to come to the bench area to take photos of their child receiving his/her medal.

12)Apparel will be available for sale in the main lobby during the Tournament.

13)A raffle table will be set up with the drawings being made at 10:00am on Sunday. The raffle table will also act as our “lost and found” location.
