Western Canada Aviation Museum, Winnipeg

In recognition of Manitoba Day, the museum will contact a special tour called Made in Manitoba which will feature Canada’s first helicopter, the Froebe, made by three brothers in Homewood; the Black Brant rocket, made by Bristol Aerospace of Manitoba; and the Vickers Vedette flying boat, which was flown by Manitoba Government Air Services in the 1920s. Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum and Alliance Française du Manitoba, Winnipeg

As part of the sixth annual Winnipeg International Storytelling Festival, Le Musée de Saint-Boniface Museum is partnering with Alliance Française du Manitoba as a principal venue for the Festival’s first-ever francophone component. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum, Brandon

The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is hosting a free open house on Manitoba Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brandon Municipal Airport. This is the only museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. New Iceland Heritage Museum, Gimli

The New Iceland Heritage Museum in Gimli will be celebrating Manitoba Day by hosting a Heritage Fair in the Lady of the Lake Theatre. This year’s theme is Manitoba’s History and Heritage which will showcase the work of local Grade 6 students. Manitoba Historical Society, Winnipeg

The Manitoba Historical Society will be celebrating Manitoba Day with free iced tea, lemonade and cookies in the Dalnavert Visitor Centre, 61 Carlton St., Winnipeg. There will be a special two-for-one entrance fee to the Dalnavert Museum. There will be Manitoba Historical Society trivia games and prizes. There will be free admission on Manitoba Day along with tours of the historic village and the collection of over 500 antique tractors and steam engines. This year’s theme is the Olympics. Children will have the opportunity to make Olympic torches, join in the opening ceremonies and participate in relay games. Manitoba Genealogical Society, Winnipeg

On May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Manitoba Genealogical Society will hold its annual open house at Unit E - 1045 St. James St., Winnipeg. Admission will be free and open to all. The Forks, Winnipeg

Events include a pancake breakfast with all proceeds going to Winnipeg Harvest and Hunger for Hope, live entertainment and birthday cake. The birthday celebrations will continue at the Winnipeg Goldeyes game in the evening and will conclude with a fireworks display. In honour of Manitoba’s birthday, visitors to The Forks will also be asked to share their favourite Manitoba experience for an online video promotion.
