THE ROAD TO GRADUATION

Sophomore Year

September · Review your course selections. Be sure your courses are

preparing you for college.

·  Remember, colleges want you to take a high school

curriculum that challenges the student.

October · Take the PSAT’s. M.T.H.S. pays for the test for its’ 10th and

11th grade.

·  This test will show you your strengths and weaknesses.

·  Become involved in after-school activities. There is a

direct correlation to good grades.

November · Meet with your guidance counselor for a discussion on the

“COIN Program”, which is the career and guidance program.

December · Take interest inventory test using the COIN Program.

· Take occupation search using the COIN Program.

January · When High School Alumni visit during the holidays, be sure to

talk with them about their college experience.

February · Work hard on your grades, it is the #1 thing a college

looks at.

· Continue to work on the COIN Program to match your interest

inventory with your career choice.

March · Register for the SAT’s.

·  Review your PSAT score report. See where your strengths are

and get help with your weaker areas. Use your test, the

correct answers and your responses to help prepare for the

SAT’s.

April · Raise your verbal score: Read, read, read.

·  Utilize www.collegeboard.com to download and take

an official mini SAT and get predicted score and study plan.

May · SAT I is offered this month.

·  Start planning work or out of school activities (volunteer work)

that demonstrates responsibility, dedication and development of areas of interest.

June · Finish Sophomore year with good grades.

·  Update your “Resume” – your list of accomplishments,

Involvements, and work experiences.

July · Talk with parents about college plans

·  Visit colleges

August · Continue college visits. It’s never too early.

·  Be sure to talk to High School Alumni during their summer

break about their college experience.
