MADISON, Wis. -- A Middleton man is accused of driving a day care van drunk with three young children inside.

Police said James Edward Edison, 49, was driving the children -- ages 9, 7 and 5 -- to an after-school day care facility from a local elementary school on Monday afternoon.

Authorities said an anonymous caller tipped off police.

Police said Edison was given field sobriety tests and blew a .186 on a Breathalyzer, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive.

Police said another employee of the day care center was transported to the scene and drove the van's three passengers to the after-school facility.

Deforest man admits to hit and run

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Department says a Deforest man admitted to hitting a 17-year-old male pedestrian from Waunakee on January 10, 2010.

Brian Bausch was driving north on CTH P in the Town of Berryin his 1996 Toyota Corolla when he allegedly hit the teen. The victim was treated and released from a local hospital. Bausch also admitted he had been drinking before the accident happened.

Bausch faces a felony hit and run charge. The case is being forwarded to the Dane County District Attorney's Office.

Drunk Driver Hits Bicyclist
A woman is cited for drunken driving after a car versus bicycle crash.

Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:

Early Sunday morning officers responded to a car versus bicycle crash on Saint Paul Avenue. A 43-year old Madison woman had been biking north on the avenue when a Honda Civic struck her from behind. A man, who was biking with the victim, reported that she was carried a short distance before landing on the ground. The victim was transported to a local hospital for tests, but was found to have no significant injures. The crash shattered part of the car's windshield, broke off a rearview mirror, and left the Cannondale bike with significant rear-end damage. The car's driver, and its passengers, stopped to render aid immediately. The driver was cited for drunken driving.

Ms. Bunuso was cited for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence.

Madison, WI. February 15, 2010 – Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies cited thirteen drivers for Operating While Intoxicated over the weekend. All but one were first offenses, with a Friday night arrest being a three-time offender.
On Saturday night, a seventeen year-old female from Madison was cited for OWI after she ran a stop sign at the intersection of Mound View Road and Mid-Town Road in the town of Verona. She lost control and the vehicle rolled several times, coming to rest approximately 250 feet off the roadway. She was treated for minor injuries at UW Hospital and then released.
In another Saturday night incident, one deputy made two consecutive arrests for OWI. When he was attempting to bring his first offender to the Dane County Jail, he was unable to enter the squad vehicle sally port to the Public Safety Building, because a car was blocking the driveway. When the deputy made contact with the driver, that man was also arrested for OWI.
Not included in these unusually high numbers, are two snowmobilers cited for Operating While Intoxicated. In an early Friday morning incident, Michael A Grueneberg, age 26 of Sun Prairie, was arrested for OWI causing injury. He lost control of his snowmobile, throwing both him and his female passenger off the sled. Later that same day, there was a vehicle vs. snowmobile crash at Windsor Road and Royal View Drive in the town of Windsor. In that incident, Mark D. Kroll, age 36 of Madison, was cited for OWI. Kroll and three other snowmobilers were traveling south on the trail, when he failed to yield to oncoming traffic and was struck by a pick-up driven by James D. Fredenberg, age 52 of Deforest. Kroll was transported to UW Hospital, with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Currently in Wisconsin, snowmobile, ATV, and boat OWI’s are not tied in to a person’s motor vehicle driving record.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE FITCHBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT

On 02/22/10 at approximately 2:28 AM a Fitchburg Patrol Officer on patrol located a two vehicle crash at the intersection of USH 18/151 and CTH PD. The investigation revealed a car was traveling eastbound on CTH PD at STH 18/151 and ran a red light. A pickup truck was traveling southbound on STH 18/151 and broadsided the car in the driver’s door. The driver of the car died at the scene.

The driver of the car was a 23 year old male from Madison, WI. There was a passenger in the car; he is a 23 year old male from Madison, WI. The driver of the truck is 22 year old male from Michigan. Both the passenger of the car and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Names are being withheld until notification can be made with family members.

It is believed the driver of the car had been drinking and alcohol contributed to the crash. The investigation remains open until toxicology results are returned.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Dane County Coroner’s Office, Verona Police Department, Fitchburg Fire Department and Fitchrona EMS assisted at the crash site.

Madison man killed in two vehicle crash

FITCHBURG(WKOW) -- One man was killed in a two vehicle crash in Fitchburg.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning, Fitchburg police were called to the intersection of Highway 151 and County Highway PD. Officers say an eastbound car ran a red light anddrove into the path of a southbound truck.

The 23-year-old driver of the car died at the scene.Police say he's from Madison, but his name has not been released.A passenger in the car and the driver of the truck were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they believe the driver of the carhad been drinking. They are now waiting on toxicology reports.

The crash happened in the early morning hours today. This crash was at 1552 University Avenue, in the City of Madison. This was a vehicle that left the roadway, struck a traffic light and then hit a building. The driver was pronounced shortly after arriving at the U.W. Hospital Emergency Room. The driver of the vehicle has been identified as: Darrell H. Pantazes, 51 years old, from Skokie, Illinois. Darrell was wearing his seat belt. This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Coroner’s Office and the U.W. Police Department.

On February 28, at 12:10 a.m., a UW-Madison Police officer attempted to effect a traffic stop on a vehicle going the wrong way on W. Johnson St. The vehicle did not stop and continued down other streets the wrong way.

The suspect struck a vehicle at the intersection of University Ave. and Orchard St. The person in this vehicle was transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures.

The suspect of the vehicle continued west on University Ave. where it struck and flattened a traffic light pole. It became airborne and collided into the side of the building at 1552 University Ave. The suspect needed to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 12:54a.m.

The suspect information is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this case.

The crash happened yesterday morning, February 27th, 2010. The crash was at Halverson Road and Lake Kegonsa Road in the Town of Dunn. This was a single vehicle that left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as:
Brandon S. Cooper, 21 years old, from the City of Stoughton. This crash remains under investigation by the Dane County Coroner’s Office, and the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

At 5:22 a.m. Dane County Sheriff’s Deputies, McFarland Police, and Stoughton Fire and EMS responded to a one vehicle crash on Lake Kegonsa Road near USH 51 in the Town of Dunn.

The vehicle involved was discovered by a passerby. The passenger car failed to stop at a stop sign and traveled approximately 100 feet before striking a tree. First arriving units found the driver was pinned in the vehicle. The 21 year old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Assistant Coroner.

This crash remains under investigation and the name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.

MADISON, Wis. -- A Friday night crash investigation led to the arrest of a Madison woman who was allegedly driving under the influence with three children under the age of seven in her vehicle.

36-year-old Latara Freeman of Madison is currently in the Dane County Jail where she is facing a felony charge of OWI causing injury, among other charges.

Police said Freeman was speeding on Prairie Rd. when another vehicle struck her vehicle.

None of Freeman's passengers, including the three children under seven, were wearing their seatbelts.

Six people including the children were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries..

The children have since been released to a relative.

No one in the other vehicle reported any injuries.

Deputies arrest man for 5th OWI near DeForest

DEFOREST (WKOW) -- An Eagle River man was booked into jail on his fifth OWI offense.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night, 45-year-old Robert Bennett turned onto Highway 51 from County Highway V in DeForest. A Dane County Sheriff's deputy says Bennett was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

The deputy stopped Bennett and arrested him. Bennett was booked into the Dane County jail on the OWI charge. He was also ticketed for operating after revocation and inattentive driving.

Man Charged with Midday Drunken Driving
Police arrest a man after call about a drunken driver just after noon on Wednesday.

Information from Madison Police:
On 3/3/2010 at approximately 12:14pm, a Madison Police Officer was dispatched to the 4000 block of East Towne Boulevard reference a complaint of an intoxicated driver. The concerned citizen relayed information to the 911 Dispatching Center, and the officer was given timely descriptions of the red Ford Mustang being operated by a Bryan Borkowski, 49.
The officer observed the vehicle “jumping” due to quick accelerations from a slowed/stopped position. The officer attempted to stop Borkowski by initiating his squad lights due to a different moving violation, and it was estimated that Borkowski drove ¼ of a mile before he made the decision to stop.
The officer immediately smelled a strong odor of intoxicants, and Borkowski readily admitted to recently having three alcoholic drinks. The officer asked Borkowski (described as swaying forward and backward and side to side) to step from the vehicle to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Once tests were completed, the officer had no other alternative but to place Borkowski under arrest for OMVWI.
Borkowski was conveyed to the Dane County Jail after other administrative requirements were completed. A portable blood test (PBT) reflected a result of .254, and if Borkowski is convicted on the charges above, it will be his 3rd offense of operating of a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant/controlled substance and/or both.

Paul S. Schroeder, 55, was driving on N. Fair Oaks Avenue in Blooming Grove. Authorities say he's being held in the Dane County Jail on the felony OWI charge and driving after license revocation.

MADISON, Wis. -- A Madison man is facing charges connected to his sixth offense of operating while intoxicated.

Juan Lopez, age 53, was arrested just after midnight Monday morning by deputies from the Dane County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said a resident called 911 after seeing that a vehicle had crashed at the intersection of Mid-Town and High Point roads.

Lopez's 1991 Chevrolet van was found stuck in a snow bank about 200 feet off the road, according to the sheriff's department.

Lopez was not hurt.

He was taken to a local hospital for a blood test and was booked into the Dane County Jail.

Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
On Friday evening, Madison Police arrested a 35-year old intoxicated mother after she drove recklessly, in the wrong direction on Vilas Park Drive, with her 5-year old daughter inside the car. The child was not secured in a proper car seat, and witnesses said the woman drove up and over a one-way stone bridge before getting stuck in a snow bank. The suspect was stumbling when officers arrived, and unable to perform field sobriety tests. When shown what she was supposed to do, she stated: "See. I can't. I'm drunk. I'm drunk." Empty beer cans were found in the car. The suspect was arrested, and her child taken into protective custody.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say an intoxicated driver was taken to the hospital after a crash.
Around 11:20 Wednesday night, Madison police officers were called to Northport Drive and Packers Avenue on the city's northeast side.
Officers say a driver was going too fast around a curve and slammed into a tree.
Police say the driver had non-life threatening injuries.
He was ticketed for operating while intoxicated.

MADD Urging Hearing On Drunken Driving Bill

Proposal Would Legalize Sobriety Checkpoints

MADISON, Wis. -- The national president of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is urging Wisconsin lawmakers to hold a hearing on a bill that would toughen drunken driving penalties in the state.
The proposal would legalize sobriety checkpoints and make a first-offense drunken driving arrest a crime instead of just a traffic violation.
MADD President Laura Dean-Mooney asked the co-chairs of the Legislature's budget committee in a letter dated Tuesday to hold a hearing on the bill.
A spokesman for committee co-chair Sen. Mark Miller, D-Monona, said it doesn't make sense to move ahead with the costly bill before another proposal toughening drunken driving penalties passed last year takes effect.
The budget committee generally doesn't hold hearings on bills.

Truck overturns into stream, driver arrested for OWI

A 25-year-old Albany man was injured and arrested Thursday night aftercrashing his pickup truckand overturning it into a stream in GreenCounty.
Joshua Walker was tentatively charged with operating while intoxicated, driving too fast for conditions and inattentive driving after the crash on Bump Road east of the village of Albany at about 11 p.m. Thursday.
He was taken into custody by Albany police on other charges related to a domestic dispute a short time before the crash.
According to the Green County Sheriff's Office, Walker fled the scene of the domestic dispute in his pickup truck, going east on Bump Road.
He lost control of his truck and hit the end of a bridge guardrail, causing the truck to veer off the road, overturning in a stream.
Walker got out of the vehicle on his own, the incident report said. He was taken to Monroe Clinic Hospital.
