Dynamic Measurement System Setup

Background

A major benefit with CAE is to be able to predict results early in the development processes and to be able to investigate the results of changes, or better, to perform optimization to improve design. The result is a shorter development time. At Vicura we perform analyses at all stages in the development process for a variety of phenomena. Vicura also have the capability to perform tests in our own test cells developed for e.g. durability testing, spin tests.

Especially when studying the behavior on system level it is often difficult to achieve sufficient accuracy using CAE due to complex interactions, lack of data etc. Then tests become important for product validation purposes, so testing is necessary. Even if there are accurate CAE methodsthey usually rely on testing at some stage for correlation. So testing is often necessary for model and method validation.

Vicura performs a variety of dynamic analyses of transmissions and drivelines. In order to perform complementary testing and model validation testing a dynamic measurement system needs to be developed.

Thesis Goal

The thesis goal is to define a cost effective measurement and analysis setup utilizing the capabilities of matlab data acquisition and post-processing toolboxes along with standard interfaces to data acquisition hardware. The measurement system needs to be sufficient to perform modal analysis, frequency response, frequency spectra and order analysis. The measurement and analysis setup is then procured and implemented at Vicura where it is used for a set of tests.The student will

-Create a specification for the measurement system that meets the need.

-Identify a suitable setup.

-Implement/Install the equipment.

-Perform a set of test verifying the function and capability of the measurement system.

-Perform comparisons to simulation for simple test objects.
