Job Title:Vice President of Development
Supervisor:President CEO
Job Summary:Work in partnership with the CEO to lead fund development efforts. Develop and implement all aspects of fundraising activities to support growth, budgetary goals and strategic intent throughout chapter territory. Develop, lead, and manage Development team, and focus personal fundraising activities on major gifts, planned gifts and endowment.

DEPARTMENTAL LEADERSHIP
Leads departmental development of annual fundraising plan; responsible for implementation of all associated activities.
Leads activities to ensure a “donor-centered” culture of philanthropy is built into all programs, activities and development communications.
Identifies longer-term initiatives (beyond fiscal year at hand) and prepares timelines/strategies for successful implementation
Manages and supports direct reports in the achievement of their annual goals, and guides their career growth
Provides collaborative leadership on the Management Team, representing development department initiatives, goals and progress.
MAJOR AND PLANNED GIFTS
Define and manage organizational programs for individual giving including major, planned, and endowment gifts. Sets financial benchmarks and ensures successful implementation of activities to meet revenue goals.
Work directly with current and prospective donors at the $5,000+level on an annual basis and/or with donors interested in establishing a legacy gift to our organization.
Lead efforts to strategize and assign major donor portfolio. Work closely with CEO and other development staff to ensure excellence in relationship management, including ongoing cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for current and prospective major donors.
Maintain a portfolio to cultivate and steward current and prospective individual major donors, family foundations, private foundations and endowment donors.
Ensure that revenue targets are met for major gifts and planned giving.
GENERAL
Ensure strong partnership with CEO on development strategies, major donors and chapter plans
Ensure solid communication and trust is built between Development and Program departments.
Work collaboratively to benchmark and establish goals for program, finance and administrative team members engaged in fundraising activity.
Ensure that plans, policies and procedures related to philanthropy are written down, up-to-date and clearly available for staff and Board member use in accordance with MAWFA standards.
Actively participate in all local internal fundraising events.
Network with members of the local business community, philanthropy community, fellow non-profit organizations and other Make-A-Wish chapters to increase awareness for our mission, attract financial support and discover and implement new initiatives adaptable for our chapter
Monitor monthly revenue results and expense statements; prepare alternate plans of action when necessary to meet overall financial goals
ADMINISTRATION
Oversee preparation and management of department revenue and expense budgets and participate in discussions/exercises surrounding completion of organizational annual budget
Hire, train, supervise and review the performance of direct reports.
Ensure that appropriate direction, support and feedback to all development staff is utilized on a continual basis
Provides organizational leadership, models organizational culture and behavioral expectations, and defines strategy as a member of the management team
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for the Make-A-Wish® mission
- 10+ years of successfulfundraising experience with demonstrated progressive professional growth, including significant supervisory experience leading a department
- Proven track record of success in soliciting and closing major gifts and relationship management
- Ability and desire to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Proven ability to: mentor and provide leadership, cultivate relationships and solicit gifts, create and manage meaningful and inspiring projects, work within tight timelines and limited budgets, communicate with passion and relevancy to a diverse constituency, thrive in a competitive marketplace, contribute to a collaborative and team-oriented organization
- Proven ability to strategize and implement programs to maintain and grow revenue
- Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills, including familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge. Awareness of social media tools that can aid in philanthropic growth.
- Experience with short- and long-term strategic planning.
- Ability to travel frequently within chapter territory and occasional travel to national meetings
- BS/BA; MA preferred
