Maintenance Services Assistant

Position Purpose:

Provides interior and exterior maintenance and cleaning to assure the safety and appearance of all Library facilities.

Education and/or Experiences Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous custodial service in a public building or equivalent relevant experience required.
  • Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
  • Must perform work efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Willing to perform manual labor in all seasons both inside and outside the library.
  • Experience with decision making regarding building operational safety.
  • Ability to complete minor repairs to HVAC equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and ability making repairs to furniture, walls, floors, and ceiling.
  • Demonstrates ability to use good judgment in all situations.

Position Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Stocks, organizes, and keeps maintenance supplies in accessible order.
  • Performs duties associated with opening and closing building.
  • Cleans, vacuums and dusts library equipment, furniture, materials and facilities on a regular basis.
  • Disposes of all refuse and recycling appropriately.
  • Sets-up and removes equipment, materials and furniture for Library events and special programs.
  • Keeps restrooms, kitchen, and facilities clean on a daily basis.
  • Removes snow and ice in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains lawn, trees, shrubs and plants.
  • Keeps parking lot, walkways and exterior stairways accessible to public.
  • Cleans interior and exterior windows on a regular basis
  • Maintains all floor surfaces, as appropriate, by sweeping, mopping, waxing, buffing or vacuuming.
  • Attends training pertinent to job duties and provides training to other library employees as needed.
  • Monitors heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical equipment and schedules in accordance to Maintenance Services Coordinator.
  • Work with all library staff toexplain and enforce library policies and procedures to patrons in a manner that ensures positive customer relations.
  • Relays broken fixtures, furniture, equipment, etc. to Maintenance Services Coordinator.
  • Performs all other duties as needed.
