Main Scale Teacher Job Description

Core Purpose:

  • to model professionalism and integrity at all times

  • to plan, teach and assess children’s work

  • ensure consistent practice and standards are achieved in the classroom

Knowledge and skills required by all teachers

Teachers should have knowledge and understanding of:-

  • what constitutes quality in teaching and learning and how to measure it
  • how to raise standards
  • how to promote spiritual, cultural, social and moral education
  • how to develop and promote citizenship
  • the application of computing in relation to pupil data and curriculum development
  • the application of comparative data for bench marking purposes in the drive to raise standards
  • how to utilise teaching styles to motivate staff, pupils, parents and governors
  • the process of school self evaluation and how it supports continuous school improvement

The teacher should be able to use appropriate leadership skills in order to:-

  • prioritise, plan and organise
  • direct and co-ordinate the work of pupils, teaching assistants and parent helpers
  • work with and learn from high performing teams
  • work as part of a team
  • motivate and inspire pupils, governors, parents and the wider community
  • set high standards and provide a role model for pupils
  • seek advice and support when necessary
  • deal sensitively with people and resolve conflict professionally

Teachers should be able to:-

  • make decisions based on analysis, interpretation and understanding data
  • think creatively and imaginatively to anticipate and solve problems and identify opportunities
