JOB SPECIFICATION

The primary purpose of this post is to ensure the safety and comfort of users at all times. The post holder will be a first point of contact for the public. Applicants must have a degree of availability for weekday daytime & weekend shifts, please include your availability in your cover letter.

The post holder will report to the Duty/Deputy Front of House Manager on duty at the time (hereafter referred to as Duty Manager), and will be line managed by the Assistant Venue Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities will include

1.  Working as an individual and as part of a team to deliver excellent and friendly customer service.

2.  Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines and good practice.

3.  Ensuring the safety of the public in auditoria and public spaces.

4.  Ensuring fire exits are kept clear.

5.  Ensuring cleanliness of all public areas (including litter picking in auditoriums post performances/screenings) and any cleaning duties as requested by Duty Manager.

6.  Checking validity of tickets and showing people to their seats.

7.  Monitoring the audience during performances and screenings to ensure there are no disruptions or problems.

8.  Dealing with general enquiries.

9.  Sale of merchandise and programmes when required.

10.  Ensuring safe usage of all equipment.

11.  Be fully conversant with the Evacuation Procedures and assist during the evacuation of the building in emergencies.

12.  The post holder may be asked to carry out any other tasks appropriate to the title and status of the post.

All staff receive complimentary tickets and are expected to attend Macrobert Arts Centre events on a regular basis.

Essential

·  Friendly and confident, with the ability to deal in a professional and courteous manner with children, adults, performers, promoters and staff alike.

·  Ability to work a range of shifts on both through the week & on weekends.

·  Experience of dealing with the public.

·  Past work experience in a busy arts environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

·  Experience of dealing with the public.

·  Customer care experience.

·  Familiarity with cash handling.

·  Good interpersonal skills.

·  Numerate.

Desirable

·  First aid training.

·  Understanding of and commitment to Equality and Access.

·  Experience of welcoming customers with additional access requirements (eg Disabilities, Dementia, Autism).

Macrobert Arts Centre has responsibilities in respect of users, and in particular children and young people, and applicants are required to disclose any criminal convictions. Road traffic offences need not be disclosed unless the post involves the driving of company vehicles. If you have any criminal convictions which are not spent (in terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act) details should be given in your application together with a statement that you have spent conviction/s if this is the case. Applicants who have spent convictions and are short-listed for the vacancy will be required to make a full declaration of these later. The relevance of any conviction to the appointment sought would be carefully considered by the appointing committee.

Macrobert will be open seven days a week with a large number of performances and screenings taking place in the evening and at weekends, therefore you will be required to exercise a high degree of versatility and flexibility, which will involve regular evening and weekend work, including occasional late-nights.

This is a part time post ranging from 10-15 hours per week. The hourly rate of pay is £8.25.
