M EC 2040 Research Paper Format

In terms of style, always keep it formal and professional, but don't worry about personal references such as I, we, they etc. You should, however, avoid references to the academic setting or the learning experience.

Cover (use a 3 hole type but not a 3 ring)

Title Page (include title, sub-title, name and date) Report Body

In 1000-1500 words be sure to tell me what you think about some topic relating to the

content of the course. You should both go beyond our coverage of a topic and seek to tie topics together.

What's your angle? Your sub-title should reveal this first. Support your opinions and ideas with your findings from research. You should meet the standards of proof established by typical technical magazine articles (not lab reports).

Be sure to cite your sources here in the body, so that the reader always knows whose ideas are being read. Including (Jones, p.6) at the end of a paragraph would credit the author Jones (identified in the list of works cited) with the ideas in that paragraph. Alternatively, a format of (2, p.6) would reference the second work in the list. Any coherent system (MLA, etc.) will be acceptable. If an idea is expressed without a citation, I'll presume you mean to credit yourself.

Works Cited and Appendix

You must have at least three with author and date. Present them in a numbered list at the end of your paper.

Also, in an appendix attach highlighted full text sources (articles/web pages etc.) or highlighted notes/emails from communication with expert(s). Avoid low-level sources (like ;. Popular Mechanics), ancient sources (use your judgement), or dry/flat material like encyclopedias.

Presentation

Turn in a paper version and also email a file of all but the appendix (so I can put your work up on the web). Include a word count in the subject of your email.
