Luscious Lemon Delights take Double Gold!
The 2011 Great Taste Awards results have been announced and brought wonderful news for Roots & Wings, with judges declaring the Beautifully Smooth Lemon Curd & Sicilian Lemon Biscuits worthy winners of the much coveted Gold!
The Guild of Fine Food annual awards for speciality food and drinks producers was a fiercely contested competition with a staggering 20% more entries than last year. Winners were selected by the exceptionally honed palates of 400 judges comprising chefs, food writers, key buyers and retailers.
Going for gold is at the heart of what Roots & Wings sets out to achieve. Creating great tasting products by using pure ingredients lovingly crafted by some of the finest British master craftsmen who have worked to refine their recipes carefully to produce most divine results.
Beautifully Smooth Lemon Curd has triumphed for the 2nd year running after being previewed to the judges before launch last summer. Winning this accolade once again is a wonderful reward for our expert jam makers down in Somerset. The beautifully smooth and creamy Lemon Curd with the zing of Sicilian lemons is made by our small team of artisan jam makers who slowly & carefully cook the fresh fruit by hand.It’s a simple but highly skilled job and one that has been perfected over many decades.
For the Sicilian Lemon Biscuits this is a debut Gold! Made by master bakers in Cornwall using 100% British Organic stone milled flour and pure West Country butter. The wonderful recipe includes a dash of Sicilian Lemon Oil to bring a light & aromatic character to the delicate, crisp biscuits. For well over sixty years the master bakers at Furniss of Cornwall have been carefully honing their expertise and now produce for us the most delicate, light and delicious biscuits.
Striking gold twice over in Roots & Wings first year of trading is a very welcome result says Belinda Gooding – Founder - whose vision for the company has been many years in the making. Belinda says, “Roots & Wings was inspired by my belief in organic farming and my aspiration to make organic products available and desired by everyone. As a mother I always wanted to provide the best for my family by giving them products which I trusted and believed were good for them from food to hair and body care, looking after them inside and out!

Having raced past the Summer Solstice already, attention turns to the busy 2011 Autumn season. Much like the work of our growers who are preparing to harvest produce, work is underway on wonderful new collections just waiting in the wings!

What’s more, the products are GM free and crafted using environmentally responsible methods whilst complying with the highest food safety regulations. Farming with compassion is of paramount importance and adheres to the high animal welfare standards used from animal husbandry to variety and breed selection. Roots & Wings is proud to work with some of the most accomplished master craftsmen to create and make the products.
The nurturing nature of Roots & Wings is clear in our commitment to donating 10% of our profits to charities, concerned with the needs of children. The first donation will be given at Christmas 2011. We are pleased to be taking nominations from our consumers already for 2012.
The current collection includes- jams, chocolates, biscuits & traditional sweets. But the vision for delivering pure organic first class products to consumers will span both food and non food items in the near future and will include: sausages, bacon, soups, bread and a sumptuous body care range.
