LSF Australia 2017 Bulletin #6
1. Friday 9th June. F5J Glider – Briefing 10:15, flying at 10:30 – 4:30 . We will fly a maximum of 8 rounds, time permitting, and there will NOT be a Fly-Off. The places will be determined by the pilot with the highest aggregate score after the qualifying rounds, noting that if we fly more than 4 rounds, a competitors lowest score will be discarded.
2. The field will be laid out so that there is sufficient room for pilots wishing to practice Open Thermal and F3K on Friday. If you get to the racecourse very early on Friday morning, please take note of the witches caps, launching base line, landing spots and flags that will already be in place delineating the F5J flying area.
3. Please note that there will be a non-modelling function in front of the Jerilderie Racecourse grandstand area on Friday 9th June from 10-4. Can you please keep cars, tents and models away from this area until Friday night.
4. Friday night. Pilot Registration at the Colony Hotel from 7:00 . The Colony has new owners who have been briefed on the large numbers likely to be there on Friday night and they will do their best to serve us all in a timely manner. Please be understanding of the pressure they will be under on what will be their busiest night of the year. The new a la carte menu looks good.
5. Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th, Monday 12th June. Open Thermal Glider. Briefing at 9:00 on Saturday, flying will commence at 9:15 . Sunday and Monday flying will commence at 8:30 . On Saturday and Sunday, the last heat will start no later than 4:30 and on Monday we will not start a new round after 12 noon.
6. The Lane Draw for winches for Saturday corresponds to your Team Number. Team Number One will be on the far left as you face the turnarounds (most likely to the S-SW) and Team 15 will be on the far right as you face the turnarounds. The lanes will be 5-7 metres wide so the winch line will not be long at around 80-90 metres. The forecast suggests that the wind will blow from the S to SW for all 4 days which will hopefully mean that we do not have to move the winch base line. If that is the case, we will not change the Lane Draw for teams daily, so you can leave your winches out overnight if you so desire.
7. Saturday night dinner in the Civic Hall. 6:30 for 7:00 . BYO drinks. We have arranged new caterers for this year and it promises to be different and a step up from the last few years. We have 74 people attending which is a great rollout. We will have a slideshow running that highlights elements of the last 40 years of LSF Australia at Jerilderie.
8. During the evening the Australian F3K Team will conduct an Auction to help raise funds. Bring along anything you might like to donate for the team to Auction, and plenty of cash to bid on the bargains that are sure to be there.
9. LSF Australia will hold its Annual General Meeting at the clubrooms at the Jerilderie Racecourse on Sunday 11th June, 30 minutes after the completion of the last heat of flying that day.
10. The Open Thermal event at Jerilderie this year is the sole selection trial to pick the Australian Team for the 2018 F3J World Championships. We have 12 pilots who have nominated and paid the $50 fee. As per the current FAI F3J rules the placings will be determined by the aggregate of scores from the heats, and if we fly more than 7 rounds, the lowest score for each entrant will be discarded.
11. The Open Thermal event at Jerilderie also serves as the final round of Austour 2017 and we will declare the winner during the prize giving ceremony on Monday afternoon.
We are looking forward to a fantastic event to celebrate 40 years of LSF at Jerilderie. Catch you all next Friday if not before.
