Student achievement should be utmost in all thinking and all stakeholders must share a common vision and a purposeful plan.

  • Parents Should:
  1. See that their student is on time and attending school regularly.
  2. Support the school discipline policy.
  3. Establish a time for homework and review homework regularly.
  4. Provide a quiet place to study.
  5. Encourage their child’s efforts and be available for questions.
  6. Stay aware of what their child is learning.
  7. Read with their child and let my child see me read.
  • Students Should:
  1. Attend school regularly.
  2. Come to school each day with necessary supplies.
  3. Complete and return homework assignments.
  4. Observe regular study hours.
  5. Conform to the rules of school conduct.
  • Teachers/School Should:
  1. Provide appropriate and meaningful homework assignments.
  2. Provide necessary assistance to parents so that they can help with assignments.
  3. Encourage students and parents by providing information about student progress.
  4. Use special activities in the classroom to make learning enjoyable.
  5. Provide an environment that allows for positive communication between the parents, students, and teachers.
  1. Ways for the Parent to become involved in the school and his/her child’s education.
  • An important component for the parent involvement program is that you as parents become actively involved. Involvement could be directly teaching and reviewing homework at home or volunteering at HHS. Doing clerical work for teachers or office staff, chaperoning field trips, and assisting academics with academy or club activities are a just a few of the volunteer opportunities available. Joining PTO also offers many volunteer opportunities. Also see Standard III in the Parent Involvement Plan.
  • Non-English speaking parents of ESOL students also have an opportunity to better assist and support their children by participating in FREE English and/or computer literacy classes offered by the Rogers Public Schools.

  1. Activities planned throughout the school year to encourage parental involvement

To welcome parents in the school, the school shall:

  1. [Shall]Not have any school policies or procedures that would discourage a parent from visiting the school, specifically including:
  1. Policies requiring parents to pick-up his or her child outside the school building each day.
  2. Policies prohibiting parents from visiting a child’s classroom during school events.
  3. Ensure that office staff greetings, signage near the entrances and any other interaction with the parents create a climate in which parents feel valued and welcome.
  4. Educate and assist staff members in creating an inviting climate and effectively utilizing volunteer resources.
  1. Use the community’s citizens as guest speakers and student tutors.
  2. Engage in other activities determined by the school to welcome parents into the school.

  1. The school will provide opportunities for parents to be involved in organizations established on campus. These organizations are:

  1. Encourage parents to become involved by volunteering to be a guest speaker on campus relating to curriculum or careers.

To encourage communication with parents, the school will:

  1. To encourage communication with the parents, all parents will be invited to various on-site parent involvement meetings, including, but not limited to:
  2. Open House
  3. Two district-designated parent/teacher conferences, one in October and one in February
  4. 8th grade parent night
  5. College Readiness/AP parent nights
  6. Grade-specific seminars(scholarship,financial aide)
  7. Freshman parent night

These events are intended to inform parents about decisions affecting curriculum choices, student commitments, career planning, and preparation for post-secondary opportunities.

  1. Establish opportunities for parents and educators to share information such as student strengths and learning preferences.
  1. Use a variety of communication tools seeking to facilitate two-way interaction between parents and teachers that include but are not limited to conferences, phone calls, emails postcards, and letters.
  1. Provide clear information regarding course expectations and offerings, student placement, school activities, student services, and optional programs.
  1. Parents will receive a district mailing that will list available courses one month prior to registration.
  2. All families will be provided with a course catalog for use during registration. It is also available online.
  1. Send report cards and regular progress reports to parents. Provide support services and follow-up conferences as needed.
  1. Interim reports will be sent as needed to parents. Parents can see their student’s grades and attendance anytime through Pinnacle Parent Viewer. Passwords will be provided to ALL students and parents. Parents are welcome at anytime to use the computers in the parent center or counseling office to check their student’s grades/attendance. Parents are also able to e-mail teachers directly from Pinnacle Parent Viewer.
  2. Semester report cards will be sent to parents, first semester via student, second semester via mail.
  1. Disseminate information on school policies, discipline procedures, assessment tools and school goals. Include parents in any related decision making process.
  1. School goals will be reported by principal in October (during Parent/Teacher conferences) to parents. ( just took out parentheses)
  2. Student handbooks will be distributed to all students.
  1. Encourage immediate contact between parents and teachers when concerns arise.
  1. Translate all communication to assist non-English speaking parents. The district will provide translators for Parent/Teacher conferences, registration meetings, and all other meetings that assist parents in helping their children improve their academic achievement and becoming active participants in the education of their children.
  1. Provide AmeriCorps interpreter/liaison in order to build trust between parents and school staff, to help bridge language barriers between parents and school staff, and to encourage parents to participate in their children’s school experience. AmeriCorpsmembers make phone calls for teachers, interpret during parent/teacher conferences, translate notes to or from home, and other duties that increase and improve communication.
  2. Provide access to a Family ESOL program which provides family literacy services to improve the English language skills of ELL students and to assist parents in helping their children improve their academic achievement and become active participants in the education of their children.
  1. Communicate with parents regarding positive student behavior and achievement, not just regarding misbehavior or failure. Teachers will communicate via email, phone calls, postcards, notes and conferences.
  1. Teachers will provide updated information to parents regarding classroom expectations and online grade reporting via Pinnacle so that parents can take an active role in their child’s education.
  1. Provide opportunities for parents to communicate with principals and other administrative staff.

  1. Promote informal activities at which parents, staff, and community members can interact.
  1. Provide staff development regarding effective communication techniques and the importance of regular two-way communication between the school and the family. Training will also be provided to enhance understanding of effective parental involvement strategies and the importance of setting expectations and creating a climate conducive to parental participation.
  1. Information regarding available parenting classes or workshops, ways to get involved at Heritage, and other information on upcoming events and services is available in the parent center, RHHS’s calendar on the website and via the phone messaging system.
  1. Parents can create a School Fusion account that can keep them updated on school events and what their student is expected to do in their classes.

PTO Membership

All parents and family members are invited to be part of the Heritage PTO. Whether you are a dues paying member or not, there will be opportunities to be involved during the school year. Please note checking a volunteer opportunity does NOT mean you are obligated to volunteer, just that you will be contacted.

Our membership dues and donations are used to fund a variety of activities for students and teachers during the year. We do not ask students to fundraise, so your support is our main source of income. Your dues and donations benefit the Counselor’s Student need fund, two Student Scholarships (Bonnie Grimes & HHS PTO), Teacher Appreciation, Fall Spirit cookout, Homecoming, Color Day, Baccalaureate, ACT Information meeting for families and many other activities. We truly appreciate your financial support and involvement.
