President’s Message
“Love the journey. Don’t worry about the end.”
Richard Overton
The months of June and July mark a time when we hit the pause button to relax, refresh and reflect on our past months of service, SI Tampa is committed to doing many acts of service throughout the year and as your President this year I have had the privilege of watching and participating as you all have volunteered your time to plan and execute an amazing 2016-2017 year! We have:
ü Held meetings and invited family and friends in an effort to grow our club membership
ü Welcomed one new member
ü Worked up a sweat (despite our allergies) hosting not one but two successful plant sales
ü Listened to guest speakers who were passionate about their efforts in helping women and girls
ü Supported a family during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays
ü Gave scholarships to three very deserving young women
ü Recognized two others for their work in the community
ü Supported the Teen Achievers of the Tampa YMCA
ü Developed a one-on-one mentoring program at Blake High School
ü Presented and delivered our Teen Dating Violence bookmarks to guidance counselors at Hillsborough County Schools
ü Hosted our very first Dream It, Be It One Day Conference for teen girls
ü Supported the Youth Action Committee of The Spring
ü Supported Soroptimists in the Pinellas County and Greater Daytona Beach Clubs during their LYD Awards Banquets
ü We amped up our efforts to bring awareness to Human Trafficking
ü Represented District II at the Southern Region Conference
ü Won two awards for our work with Dream It, Be It as well as the region Governor’s Service Award
These are just some of the highlights. I could go on as I know that there are countless hours of service that you do on your own time to help our club be as successful as it is. We do a lot! Volunteer service can sometimes be stressful, frustrating and tiring. However, you ladies make it seem blissfully easy as you always have a smile on your face, an ever present willingness to help and the next big idea on your mind.
I am so thankful for each and every one of you! We have two more club events on the calendar in June: our Hog Killing Luncheon and the Joint Installation Officers, and then you are free to enjoy the rest of your summer! Please rest, spend as much time with your family and friends as possible and eat cake, lots and lots of cake! Cake makes everything better and brighter. I love you and I appreciate you. Have an awesome summer!
President Rosetta
June Happenings
We have two fun, social events in June, and they both involve food! Our Hog Killing Luncheon is Saturday, June 3 at 11:30 am at the home of Wendy Wilson, 829 S. Willow Avenue, Tampa 33606 in the Hyde Park area of South Tampa. Please bring a dish to share for the luncheon and bring your big, fat piggy bank. We’ll open the banks, count all the money and set this aside to jump-start our club treasury for the coming year.
Saturday, June 10 brings our Installation of Officers held jointly with Soroptimist International of Pinellas County. We’ll host a delicious meal and then install our officers for the coming club year. If you are bringing assigned food for this event, please plan to arrive at 11:00 am to help with the setup. The luncheon will begin at 11:30. We will meet at the home of Fran DeLuccia, 5011 W. Leona Street, Tampa 33629.
Guests are welcome at both these events.
Congratulations to our club officers for 2017-2018

Dream It, Be It One-Day Seminar for Teen Girls
We’ve been dreaming about this Dream It, Be It Seminar for a year, and the day finally arrived on May 6, 2017. We met in the Media Center at Just Elementary School for breakfast and a Dream Board activity as we got to know each other.
We followed the program curriculum presenting interactive sessions on exploring careers, creating achievable goals, rising above obstacles and balancing stress.
Our members led the class sessions and joined in with the activities and discussion.
There was a great response from the teen girls as they explored the lessons.
Each shared part of their dream for the future.
Each girl went home with a back pack and folder with all their lessons and with fun experiences to learn from and remember. Our congratulations go to the Dream It, Be It team that planned and presented this event. It was a great opportunity to work together and share our knowledge and support with these young women.
