Love, Faith and Truth NEWSLETTER 5 Friday 16h March 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

What a few weeks we have had! These snowfalls have not been well received by any of us I think….well maybe some of the children!

Thank you for your patience when we have been affected by the snow. I know you know we never want to close and a ‘snow day’ for the children is never a snow day for the staff who all continueworking. We have so much to get through curriculum wise that such days are never welcome! The decision to close or not is always very stressful and we really appreciate your understanding.

We are now in the Season of Lent.

Each Class has now decided what they are going to do to raise funds during Lent in support of our two nominated charities CAFOD and Catholic Care (Good Shepherd). All sponsored events are planned for Friday 23rd March which is also a Non-Uniform Day ‘Staff as Pupils, Pupils as Professionals’ £1 max £2 per family please.

If you have not received a sponsor form please ask your child’s teacher asap. This year the Government have pledged to double every £1 raised in aid of CAFOD so it is indeed a great opportunity for us to contribute and support ‘Big Change’ for those less fortunate than ourselves. If you would like further information please look at the CAFOD website

Sporting NewsOur Cross Country superstars have done it again! Superb performances camefrom the brilliant Joshua Cooke and Rebecca Riley at the West Yorkshire Cross Country Championships on Thursday. Joshua Cooke came a fantastic 4th in his race whilst Rebecca came 6th in her race against pupils from the whole of the county. Rebecca will now go on to represent Sacred Heart and West Yorkshire in the National Finals in Loughborough on Saturday 24th March. What amazing athletes!

A huge congratulations to our wonderful Gymnastics team, who were runners up in the annual Calderdale Gymnastics Competition at North Bridge Leisure Centre. Our team put in a fantastic performance and amazed everyone with their outstanding skills.A big thanks to Millie, in Year 6, who unfortunately missed the event due to illness, but had been one of our star performers. Our pupils were so well-behaved and a credit to our school. Well done, gymnasts! You are fabulous.

News from Willow Class Year 1

Over the past few weeks, Willow Class have been writing letters to invite Queen Elizabeth to afternoon tea. Unfortunately The Queen had to take one of her pet corgis to the vets, but we still had a wonderful time ballroom dancing, eating cream cakes and drinking pink lemonade!

PTFA DO GREAT THINGS FOR SACRED HEART!

A huge thank you to our PTFA for planning and organising the Mother’s Day Shop. It was a great success as always and the children loved having a browse and then choosing a gift for their special mum and sometimes grandma too!

Their continued efforts to organise and staff fund raising events have meant that they have purchased some brand new books for our Library. We now have a full set of the Harry Potter and Alex Rider series, along with some classics from David Walliams and some fantastic picture books. Our children love the new additions to our Library. A huge thankyou to Fiona Mitchell and the team!
