Coffee with a Cop – August 11
I had the opportunity to meet the new Fifth Division Major, Aubrey Gregory, at the National Night Out Celebration last week. Mark your calendars for Friday, August 11, for coffee and conversation with Major Aubrey and Fifth Division Officers at 9:00 a.m. at Heine Brothers’ Coffee, 2714 Frankfort Avenue. There is no agenda or speeches, just a chance for you to ask questions, voice concerns and get to know the officers in your neighborhood!
168th Annual St. Joe’s Picnic – August 12
St. Joseph Children’s Home, 2823 Frankfort Avenue, will host the 168th Annual St. Joe’s Picnic on Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12. The Picnic Pre-Party is Friday from 6:00 – 11:00 p.m. Picnic Day Saturday is from Noon – midnight. VIP tickets are still available by calling 893-0241; VIP tickets include air-conditioned tent, tables, chicken dinner buffet, live music, bar service and restrooms.
St. Joseph Children’s Home is partnering up with St. Patrick’s Parish to collect cakes for the famous Cake Booth. The Cake Booth is one of the largest grossing gaming booths at St. Joe’s Picnic. Click here to purchase a cake from local Louisville bakeries and St. Joe’s will pick it up for you.
Taste of Frankfort Avenue – August 13
Celebrate 25 years of the event where visitors enjoy sampling the savory nibbles and sweet treats from the fine restaurants of Frankfort Avenue!
The 25th Annual Taste of Frankfort Avenue, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on August 13 at the Clifton Center, 2117 Payne Street, is a much anticipated event that features tastings from more than two dozen of the finest restaurants located on or near Louisville’s Frankfort Avenue. The Taste has become a significant celebration of the vitality of the Frankfort Avenue corridor where a wide variety of fine ethnic and gourmet dining establishments thrive.
General admission tickets are $45 each; VIP tickets, which include parking, VIP experience and a raffle ticket, are $100 each. For more information and to purchase tickets click here.

Lexington & Grinstead Charrettes – Aug. 15 & 16
There has been no recent public activity on a large proposed development at Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive but that’s about to change.
Two follow-up charrettes will be held on Tuesday, August 15 and Wednesday, August 16, both beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Learning Center, 2115 Lexington Road. Both nights will involve the same presentation, so the developers are asking people to only choose one or the other.
This is in regards to the proposed zoning change from C-2 to Planning Development District (PPD) consisting of mixed residential, office, retail and restaurant on 3.32 +/- acres at the intersection of Lexington Road and Grinstead Drive, specifically 2294, 2300, 2338 and 2340 Lexington Road and 2501, 2503, 2509, 2511 and 2515 Grinstead Drive.

LMPD Makes Robberies Arrest
The July 20 edition of the eNews reported onthree robberies in LMPD’s Fifth Division, one in the Highlands and two in District 9 (one on North Hite and one on Frankfort Avenue). The robberies happened between 12:30 and 3:30 am and involved men wearing bandanas. We noted that the cases appeared to be related and LMPD was actively working them.
I'm happy to report thatLMPD has made an arrest in these robberies. It came after neighbors saw people pulling vehicle door handles and called the police. After a foot chase by LMPD officers, the investigation led to evidence about the robberies.

Sustainability Story: Become a Park Steward!
Olmsted Parks Conservancy is seeking Park Stewards. A Park Steward is a volunteer leader who receives in-depth training by Olmsted Parks staff in order to help with park projects, volunteer events and/or community outreach.

Metro Public Works (MPW) is working on the following paving projects in D9.
· Pee Wee Reese Road from Taylorsville Road to Cannons Lane
· Seneca Park Road from Beargrass Road to Pee Wee Reese Road
Paving in District 9 is being done based on rated road conditions, with the lowest rated roads receiving priority.

Story Avenue Park Phase II
The District 9 office has committed $5,000 in Capital Infrastructure Funds (CIF) for Phase II of the Story Avenue Park. Phase I included the completion of the entryway. Phase II includes paving of the driveway, parking lot, basketball court and installation of the walking path and grading of the site. The plan also includes planting trees and installation of a playground this fall. Phase II will cost approximately $70,000. Private donations by Butchertown businesses/residents and the Parks Foundation have been raised.

NeighborhoodInstitute 2017!
TheNeighborhoodInstituteis a leadership education program designed to equipneighborhoodleaders with skills and resources needed to initiate positive change in the community through theirneighborhood, homeowner, and condo associations. Classes meet every Thursday, 6:00 - 8:30PM at Center forNeighborhoodsOffices, 507 South Third Street, for 12 consecutive weeks (August 24th, 2017 – November 9th, 2017). Dinner is provided each week. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited, and advance registration is required. Applications will be accepted through August 11th, 2017.
