Position / Coordinator (OSHC)
Description / As the Coordinator and Nominated Supervisor, oversee the operations of the service, lead, guide and support a team which provides quality education and care to school age children:
  • Ensure the service is compliant with the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations, and other legislation
  • Ensure the day to day operation, financial, human resource and marketing management of the service is conducted in line with UnitingCare CYPF policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the service staff act on the organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement, implementing the Quality Improvement Plan and working within requirements of the National Quality Standard
  • Implement the policies and procedures of the organisation

1.1.Assume all duties and responsibilities of the nominated supervisor.

1.3.Is the responsible person in charge of the service and if absent ensuresanother responsible person (as defined by the National Law) is in charge.

2.1Implement the service statement of philosophy to guide teaching decisions.

2.2Facilitate the successful implementation of theeducational program to meet the goals of the approved learning framework and contribute to each child’s learning outcomes:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity

  • Children are effective communicators.
  • Ensure the service facilitates aleisureand play based learning environment and develops learning programs responsive to children’s interests, strengths and abilities.
  • Implement daily routines as opportunities for learning.
  • Ensure there are ongoing records of the child’s development and assessment against learning outcomes.
  • Ensure documentation of children’s learning makes clear links between observation planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Implement inclusive practice within an environment that honours diversity.
  • Lead thinking and discussions on curriculum considerations relating to inclusion and the community of Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse families.

  1. Children’s health andsafety

3.1Ensure each child’s health needs are supported.

3.2Ensure that children are safe and adequately supervised at all times.

3.3Ensure that the environment is safe, supportive and educational for children.

3.4Ensure all staff are aware and respond positively and consistently to children’s additional needs and requirements e.g. medical conditions, diet/allergies, growth and development.

3.5Ensure a high standard of health and hygiene is maintained in compliance with policies and proceduresregarding health and safety at the service.

3.6Ensure safe and hygienic storage, handling and preparation of food and drinks.

3.7Administer first aid and medication in compliance with procedures and policies.

3.8Keep accurate and detailed records of injuries, accidents, trauma, medication, routines and special requirements.

3.9Support children’s individual comfort needs for sleep, rest and relaxation.

3.10Ensure the child protection policy is implemented.

  1. Physical environment

4.1Resource the service with appropriate equipment and ensure that the team maintains the cleanliness, safety and aesthetics of the environment.

4.2Ensure effective processes are in place to meet WHS requirements.

4.3Act to manage all hazards and risks in the service and facilitate timely repairs and maintenance, as required.

4.4Ensure the service strives towards environmentally sustainable practice in all areas of service operations.

  1. Staffing arrangements

5.1Ensure staff have a working knowledge of and meet the requirements of the regulations.

5.2Ensure educator qualifications and ratios meet the needs of the service in accordance with the National Regulations.

5.3Demonstrate strong leadership in education and management.

5.4Support and supervise all service staff and ensure daily organisation of staff.

5.5Promote a positive team environment and develop channels of communication based on principles of mutual respect and fairness.

5.6Lead, guide and support educators to implement and evaluate programs suitable to the individual needs, emerging skills and interests of children.

5.7Lead, guide and support staff to create a supportiveand educationally stimulating environment for children.

5.8Lead, guide and support staff to maintain ongoing records of the children’s development and daily information.

5.9Participate in ongoing professional learning and lead staff through this process.

5.10Participate in annual performance appraisal and conduct regular supervision and appraisals, developing professional learning plans to extend staff’s practices.

5.11Conduct regular staff and family meetings, as required.

5.12Follow conflict resolution and grievance procedures as per policy.

  1. Relationships with children

6.1Maintain nurturing and respectful relationships with children that foster a sense of belonging, being and becoming within the service.

6.2Ensure documentation of children’s learning is professionally presented and an authentic representation of children’s development.

6.3Ensure that staff provide a supportive educational environment that honours children’s similarities, cultures and diversities.

6.4Respect each child’s dignity and rights at all times.

6.5Provide physical care, assisting children in toileting, dressing and meal times.

  1. Collaborative partnerships with families and communities

7.1Promote clear communication between management, staff and families.

7.2Build positive networks with early childhood practitioners within the local area and other relevant community organisations and government agencies.

7.3Ensure the service is knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of families and the community.

8.1Oversee the service’s compliance with the requirements of any government or other funding received.

8.2Ensure the Management Committee is informed of any issues within the service which would affect the children, service approval rating, regulatory and legal compliance or the effective running of the service.

8.3Submit regular reports to the Management Committee on the operation of the service and attend Management Committee meetings,as required.

8.4Participate in the preparation of the annual budget and provide information and guidance to the Management Committee on budget preparation and allocation.

8.5Be conversant with the service budget, monitor the service’s financial performance and take all steps to ensure compliance with financial plans.

8.6Have a sound knowledge of the service’s management system and ability to report, as required.

8.7Ensure effective enrolment procedures and bookings, closely monitor utilisation rates and ensure vacancies are addressed immediately.

8.8Be aware of and develop skills relating to administrative functions of the service and contribute to the daily operation of the service.

8.9Understand processes to access additional funding and/or subsidies.

8.10Maintain the confidentiality of children, families and staff at all times.

8.11Lead the service in advocacy for children and their families.

8.12Positively promote and market the service to governments and other agencies, families and the community and facilitate staff involvement in promotional activities.

8.13Contribute to and implement the service’s Quality Improvement Plan.

8.14Managecomplaint handling, conflict resolution and grievance procedures in accordance with policy, as required.

8.15Keep up to date with current developments and research best practice in the education and care sector and actively share information about early childhood education and care with the team.

10.4Actively and constructively participate in regular team meetings, planning and staff development opportunities.

10.5Engage in ongoing professional development and set and fulfil development goals.

10.6Participate in all required training for your position as outlined in the Staff Learning and Development Framework and other training as required.

10.7Use the UnitingCare CYPF Library and other resources to remain knowledgeable about practice and other developments relevant to your position.

10.8Agree with your supervisor the frequency of regular supervision for your position and actively participate in this supervision.

Essential Criteria

  • Approved Diploma in Children’s Services (OSHC)
  • Approved first aid qualification
  • Supervisor Certificate and acceptance of the role of Nominated Supervisor
  • Acceptance of the role of Educational Leader under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations
  • Relevant child protection clearance i.e. Working With Children Check/Working With Vulnerable People check [selecttheapplicable]
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the National Quality Standard, current practices in early childhood programs andimplementing a quality educational program
  • Understanding of diversity and inclusive practice
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities with intermediate Microsoft skills
  • Demonstrated financial management

  • Approved asthma emergency and anaphylaxis training
