On Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th of November 2004, kind students from Bradford University will be giving children all over the world the chance of a brighter Christmas.

These two days from 12 noon until 3pm will see UNICEF’s excellent range of Christmas cards and gifts will be available for sale from the Common Room in the Pemberton Building at Bradford University. The open stall will provide a chance for anyone wanting to know more about the work of UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, and how they can help.

Louis Coles, UNICEF’s Regional Fundraising Manager for Yorkshire said, “By purchasing UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, cards and gifts this Christmas, you can give children all over the world the best possible present, the chance of a healthy, happy start to life. For just £1.70 UNICEF can buy a 60-day ration of therapeutic food for a malnourish child, it is amazing how we can make such small amounts do so much.”

UNICEF’s extensive card and gift collection for 2005 will be available and will include; cards, gift wrap, advent calendars, gift wrap, decorations, children’s toys and much, much more. Every purchase really will help, for example, UNICEF’s Festive Bangladesh decorations are bought direct from rural communities in Bangladesh, creating employment and ensuring fair wages. This project enables rural women to become elf- sufficient in remote areas of Bangladesh.

UNICEF UK’s Louis Coles added. “I hope people will take this opportunity to support UNICEF, find out more about our work and help the generous students at the University. Together we can help to bring a happy and hopeful Christmas to children all over the world.”

UNICEF UK works throughout Yorkshire to promote fundraising campaigns in partnership with local groups, schools, communities, individuals, companies and voluntary organisations. Funds raised go toward supporting UNICEF programmes worldwide that give life, hope and opportunity to disadvantaged children. The work of the organisation in war torn countries, emergency situations and in clinics, schools and homes across the globe is entirely dependent on voluntary donations.
