Student Learning Outcome Assessed / Ability to, through staged sketches, design using letters as visual, not phonetic symbols for content communication.
Description of Assessment Method
a.  Describe the assessment tool and how the data was analyzed (e.g., student activity, rubric elements, etc.). Attach rubric if applicable.
b.  Describe the sampling methodology (i.e., how sampling was done, number of students and faculty/staff involved out of the total)
c.  Describe how inter-rater reliability was achieved / a.  A rubric was used to assess student success with 5 category divisions of the above SLO, at 5 levels of competency (A-F).
b.  All student work (26) from the Fall 2012 A Lettering assignment was used in the assessment.
c.  5 random images of the students work were assessed by 2 faculty members using the rubric for the above SLO. The result were the same for both faculty members, thus normed.
Assessment Results
a.  Describe the relevant findings according to the criteria set by the assessment tool / a. Most students performed the design component quite well, but struggled
with the color harmony presentations
How Results were Used for Course/Program Improvement
a.  Describe how the results are going to be used for the improvement of teaching, learning, or institutional effectiveness based on the data assessed.
b.  Describe how results will be shared with others in the discipline/area. / a.  Need to review color theory section from Art 501, Beginning Design prior to start of this and other assignments which have color components.
b.  All Art 501, Beginning Design instructors should present some applied color harmony theory to practical design oriented problems.
