Student Trustee Victoriano called the meeting to order at 9:45 a.m.
The following colleges were present: ELAC, LAHC, LAMC, LASC, LATTC, LAVC, and WLAC. LACC and LAPC were absent.
A quorum was present.
PUBLIC SPEAKERS
Ms. Leila Menzies, Vice President of Administrative Services and Acting Director of Business Services, distributed a handout entitled, “8 Food Services Companies Responded to RFQ (Request For Qualifications): LACCD Food and Vending Services”, to the Student Affairs Committee at the beginning of her public comment.
Ms. Menzies reported on the progress of the RFQs submitted for selecting food vendors for the colleges. The handout listed the companies that met the necessary qualifiers to be considered. She stated that the next stage of selections will take place on April 21, 2017, and that it will also be determined if more qualifiers need to be added to the RFQ’s.
Student Trustee Victoriano stated that the progress of the food and vending service RFQ’s will be an agenda item for the next Student Affairs Committee meeting.
Mr. Joe Huhn, a student attending LAVC, informed students of employment opportunities for a political campaign.
ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENTS’ REPORTS

STUDENT TRUSTEE MONTHLY REPORT
Student Trustee Victoriano reported on ‘Lobby Day’. She spoke about the importance of students contacting their local representatives about legislative measures that impact LACCD students, such as the immigration discourse of the Trump administration that is causing concern in LACCD for the District’s “DACA/Dreamer” students. She reported that the CCLC (Community College League of California) has asked that all of the community colleges pass a resolution to use the preferred term of “safe campuses”, due to legal issues with the term “sanctuary campuses”. She reported that the District is forming a “DACA/Dreamer Taskforce”. She announced that the Student Trustee election is now open with, March 21, 2017 as the last day that applications may be submitted to ESC, and that online elections will take place from April 18-April 30, 2017. She announced that the AFT College Staff Guild Local 1521A informed her of their collaborative forums with the LAVC ASU, and that she will share that information with the Student Affairs Committee in the event that they would like to know how the forums at LAVC came to fruition. She reported that she will be attending a conference with Chancellor Francisco C. Rodriguez in March.
LIAISON REPORTS
Educational Services Center Report – Bobbi Kimble
Ms. Kimble announced that the Student Trustee election process is now open, and asked that Student Trustee Victoriano forward the election timeline to the Student Affairs Committee. She stated that votes will be cast electronically, including write in votes. She announced that write-in votes for the Student Trustee election would also be electronic this year.
ASO/ASU/ASG Advisors’ Report – Sonia Lopez
Ms. Sonia Lopez, Associate Dean, Student Activities, ELAC, updated the Student Affairs Committee on the Parliamentary Training. She reported that if LATTC is unavailable to host the training due to scheduling conflicts, ELAC is open to hosting, given that there is a surplus of the college’s ASU funds.

Chief Student Services Officers’ (CSSO) Report – Earic Dixon-Peters
Dr. Earic Dixon-Peters, Vice President, Student Services, LAPC, wanted to remind each member of the Student Affairs Committee to keep their ASO/U/G responsibilities in good balance with their academic schedules. He emphasized the importance of being fully engaged with incoming LA College Promise students, thereby enhancing the program’s goals of student success. He informed the Student Affairs Committee that the CSSOs have been examining whether or not employment, and or the lack thereof, might be hindrances to student success. Dr. Dixon-Peters stated that this issue had emerged among some of the officers in the LACC ASG a few years ago, and he offered to share the model that he used at LACC as a possible solution for other LACCD colleges that may also have members who are trying to find a balance. He informed the Student Affairs Committee of a districtwide initiative to increase professional development training for student workers. He also stressed the importance of the ASO/U/G officers being aware of issues such as Title IX, and announced more initiatives that will center on high school and adult education students who will be attending LACCD.
College Presidents’ Report – Denise F. Noldon
There was no College Presidents’ Report, as Ms. Noldon was absent from the meeting.

RESOURCE TABLE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE – February 8, 2017 (ELAC)
Aurora Paredes, ASU President, attended the Board meeting for February 8, 2017.
OUTSIDE COMMITTEE REPORTS
District Academic Senate Report
Student Trustee Victoriano had no report from the District Academic Senate.
District Budget Committee Report
There was no report for the District Budget Committee, as Ms. Mandie Dixon, ASG President, LACC, was not present at the meeting.
District Curriculum Committee Report
Mr. Eleby reported that the DCC has been focusing on meeting the deadlines for completing the PeopleSoft interface. He added that LAPC has proposed a curriculum change that would add Math 228A and 228B to one of its associate’s degrees.
District Planning Committee Report
There was no report for the District Planning Committee, as Mr. Larry Young is no longer a WLAC ASO officer.
District Citizens’ Oversight Committee Report
There was no report for the District Citizens Oversight Committee, as Mr. Bryant Woodert, DCOC Representative, LACC, had not received notification of a February meeting.
LACCD Sheriff’s Oversight Committee Report
Student Trustee Victoriano had no report from the Sheriff’s Oversight Committee.
*Motion by LAVC to hear LAHC Student Body President’s Report, seconded by LAMC. Approved - 6 Ayes

SUMMARY - NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Student Affairs Committee is scheduled for March 10, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Board Room at the Educational Services Center. The deadline for submitting agenda items is Monday, February 27, 2017.
