Lord, Teach Us How to Pray!(1)

Here’s what we must be concerned about: What was fundamental for the earlychurch can too easily becomessupplemental in our lives and the life ofCornerstone.

Q: Why do many of us find it so difficult to pray?

A: Our attempts at a prayer life disregard who we are.

“There is a God, there always has been. I see him here, in the eyes of the people in this hospital corridor of desperation. This is the real house of God, this is where those who have lost God will find Him... there is a God, there has to be, and now I will pray, I will pray that He will forgive that I have neglected Him all of these years, forgive that I have betrayed, lied, and sinned with impunity only to turn to Him now in my hour of need. I pray that He is as merciful, benevolent, and gracious as His book says He is.”

1.Count the pronouns and tally.

2.What does that say?

*“What God craves” and “What our hearts long for” aren’t very far away or apart!

*So, let’s begin our prayer journey realizing God is already in pursuit of us. He has already spoken to us in his word.

3.Whenever you spend time in the word, highlight verses that stand out to you. After highlighting them, go back and pray them.

*In this, God’s voice in the Scriptureis already speaking to you about you.

4.Our most powerful prayers are linked to the proclamations and promises of God. When we pray the promises and proclamations of God, we can pray with holy confidence.

5.The point of the Psalms and their use of pronouns is all about God’s relationship with you and your relationship with God and others seeking God.
