Thisfactsheetprovidesanoverviewofdatageneratedfrom theCensuscollectionconducted inAugust2013,relatingto longdaycareservices.Inaddition,itprovidesinformation aboutthenumbersofchildrenandstaffintheservices.At thistimetherewere1366approvedorlicensedservicesin Queensland,aslightincrease since2012(1362).Intotal
1356ofthe1366servicesparticipatedinthe2013Census.
In2013mostQueenslandlongday careserviceswere regulatedundertheEducationandCareServicesNational Law(theNationalLaw).Asmallnumberofserviceswere licensed undertheChildCareAct2002.Generallylong
daycareservicesoperateforatleast10hoursadayfrom MondaytoFridayforaminimumof48weeks eachyear. Theseservicesprovideeducation andcareprograms primarilyforchildrenrangingfrombirth toschoolage,with manyservicescateringforschoolagechildrenoutside schoolhours.

Otherthanthemanagementandlocationofserviceswhere administrativedatawasused,thecomments,tablesand chartsinthisfactsheetarebasedonthedataprovidedby the1356(99%)oflongday careservicesthatresponded

In2013approvedqualificationsforstaffinregulated
educationandcareservicesweresetdownintheEducation andCareServicesNational RegulationsortheChildCare Regulation2003.Underthelegislation,contactstaff engagedinregulatededucationandcareserviceswere requiredtohaveorbeworkingtowardsthequalification prescribed.Approximateequivalenciesbetweenoldand newstaffingrequirementswereasfollows:groupleader= Diploma leveleducator; andassistant=Certificate3level educator.Thereisnoequivalencefordirector.
