Regional Championship Regatta

July 13 & 14, 2013

The organizing authority (committee) for this Regatta is the Long Beach Yacht Club and Fleet V’s (Cal 25) Executive Board. Long Beach Yacht Club is the Host Club and will provide Race Management and hospitality services. LBYC is located at 6201 Appian Way, Long Beach, CA 90803. (562 598-9401)

  1. Rules.

This Regatta will be governed by the “rules” as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS 2013-2015), the Cal 25 National Rules and Fleet V By-Laws. Where a conflict exists the Sailing Instructions shall prevail over the Notice of Race. This changes RRS 63.7

1.1Competitors are reminded that under the preamble of Part 2 of the RRS, boats racing must comply with Rule 9 of the Inland Navigation Rules (72 COLREGS) when they meet with other marine traffic.

1.2US Sailing Prescriptions to RRS 60, 63.2 and 63.4 are NOT in effect.

  1. Eligibility and Entry.

Any boat and/or owner that meets the eligibility requirements as listed in the Cal 25 National Rules, Fleet V’s By-Laws and the requirements as set forth in this Notice of Race is eligible to enter this Regatta.

2.1The Skipper must be a legitimate owner of a Cal 25. Short term ownership may not be allowed.

2.2Fleet V’s Executive Board reserves the right to evaluate and make a ruling on the eligibility of competitors

2.3Fleet V’s Executive Board shall be the entity authorized to make rulings in matters pertaining to interpretation of Cal 25 National Rules and Fleet V’s By-Laws.

  1. Yacht Inspection.

All yachts and sails, not previously measured and certified by the fleet measurer, must complete this process in order to be eligible for this Regatta. All yachts which have undergone a modification, rebuild or repair not previously certified by the fleet measurer, must also complete this process in order to be eligible for this Regatta.

This activity will be conducted under the direction and control of Fleet V’s Lieutenant, who is deemed to be the Official Measurer.

  1. Schedule of Events.

Friday, July 12th, 2012

  • 1800 Hours. Final Inspection of Yachts and sail measurement

(Competitors are encouraged to make an appointment with the Fleet

Lieutenant prior to this date).

  • No Host Bar, Hors Deouvres at Long Beach Yacht Club.

Saturday. July 13th.

  • 0900 Hours. Competitors Meeting in the Regatta Room at Long Beach Yacht Club

4.1. Yacht Inspection and sail measurement will not be conducted at this time unless the Fleet Lieutenant has granted prior approval

  • 1200 Hrs. Racing Begins
  • 1800 Hours. No Host cocktail reception and burger bash @ Long Beach Yacht Club

Sunday. July 14th.

  • 1200 Hours. Racing Begins
  • 1600 Hours. Trophy Presentations. No Host Bar.
  1. Advertising.

This Regatta is designated as a Category C Appendix 1 event. The OA and LBYC reserve the right to manage and coordinate promotion of designated regatta sponsors at the Host Club and on all boats. Outside advertising will not be permitted on the yachts or on the premises without the written permission of both the OA and Long Beach Yacht Club.

  1. Entry Fee.

An Entry Fee of $75.00 is payable no later than at the time of Registration. Make checks payable to Cal 25, Fleet V. Send entry fees to Don Reiman, 10681 Oak, #33, Los Alamitos , CA 90720.

  1. Sailing Instructions.

Sailing Instructions will be available after 1800 hours on Thursday, July 11th, 2013 at Long Beach Yacht Club.

  1. Racing Courses.

Windward/ Leeward courses, with distances varying from 1.6 to 6.1 nautical miles will be utilized.

  1. Scoring.

Six races are scheduled. Three completed races may constitute a series. The low point scoring system will apply. Five races will be counted for scoring purposes. Each boat’s total score will be the sum of her five best finishes.

There will be a “throw out race” option for this Regatta. In the event that six races cannot be completed then the “throw out” option will remain intact. However, the “throw out” option will be set aside should only three races be completed.

  1. IN THE WATER REQUIREMENT.

All yachts participating in this Regatta shall be afloat in the water no later than 1800 hrs of Thursday, July 11th and remain in the water for the duration of the Regatta.

  1. Trophies.

Trophies will be awarded to the First, Second and Third Place Finishers.

Additional trophies, if warranted, may be awarded at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.
