Overview of position

As LCC Officer you will be the main elected spokesperson for your colleges, working closely with course reps and University staff to make LCC the best it can be for all our students. You will attend termly Student-Dean Forums and have regular meetings with College Management and College staff to put forward to views of students and prioritise the issues that matter. This could lead to more student led events and activities, increased opening hours in the learning zone, new technical staff or changes in how teaching is organised. You will also be involved in what the Student Union (Arts SU) does in the Colleges attending and facilitating events and campaigns, meeting students, chairing college committees and deciding the creative direction of Arts SU.

Training and support / Why should you run
Arts SU Staff, College coordinators & Sabbatical Officers will support you in your role and you will also receive:

    Meeting’, ‘Negotiation Skills’, ‘Presentation Skills’

Responsibilities / How will you do it
  • Represent the voice of students at LCC
  • Developing community within the college and university by spearheading events and creative opportunities for your peers
  • Ensure student views are being heard & acted on at all levels of by representing your peers and acting as the voice of the students with senior staff members.
  • Help course reps influence the College by developing their confidence and ensuring their points are heard and appropriately followed up.
  • Direct the creative and strategic direction of Arts SU activity at LCC
  • Work with the University for change on issues that students at LCC care about
  • Work with the Sabbatical Officers and CSM Coordinator to ensure your objectives are achieved and you make a difference at your Colleges
  • Be an active member of the Student Executive

  • Regularly communicate with course reps & other students at the college
  • Work closely with LCC Link Sabbatical Officer and the other officers on relevant issues
  • Develop & sustain a good working relationship with senior staff at LCC
  • Lead relevant student committees at LCC

Time commitment / Eligibility
  • If elected you will hold the post from 1 July 2018 to 30 June 2019.
  • You will be required to attend training and it is likely that you will work on some projects with the current officers prior to this date.
  • Apart from various pre-arranged meetings it will be up to you to decide what needs to be done and when you will do it. The role is flexible to fit around your other commitments. You will be required to attend your Colleges Student-dean forums and Executive meetings once a term.

  • You must be a current UAL student studying at LCC and will be during 2018/19
  • No previous experience is required, but lots of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential.
