  • Log onto Hwb with teacher support
  • Access JIT with teacher support

  • Open picture area
  • Use the camera function to take a photograph
  • Add the photograph to their work
  • Use the recording tool to record some information about themselves
  • Add the initial of their name to the document
  • Save their work

Teacher preparation /
  • Make name cards for each child containing their username and password for hwb.
  • Download J2Launch on each iPad
  • Make sure the iPads are charged
  • Know how to take a photograph, record sound and add them to JIT Paint

Resources /
  • 1 iPad per child
  • A mirror
  • Usernames and passwords
  • Internet

Activity
Introduction / Allow each child to look in the mirror and talk about what they see. Allow them to pull funny faces and talk about how they feel. Encourage the children to say something about themselves such as what they like to do, watch on TV, what pets they have etc. Explain that there is another way to see themselves and that is using a camera. Show the children the iPads and explain that they need to log onto Hwb and find the program JIT that we are going to use to take a photograph of ourselves and save the photographs in the cloud.
Main activity / Demonstrate the steps below to the children before letting them try for themselves with help from the teacher and myself.
  • Log onto hwb using J2Launch with the children
  • Navigate to JIT
  • Choose Paint
  • Choose the picture tab
  • Click on the camera icon
  • Encourage the children to take photos of themselves
  • Click on the ok button to add their picture to the program
  • Click on the record button
  • Each child to record something about themselves
  • Click on the add button
  • Each child to play back their recording
  • Add the initial of their name to the title bar and click the save button
  • Show how to find their saved work and how to play back their pictures

Plenary / Show each of the pictures to all the children in the group. Ask them if they can remember how to do this and can they help show other children in the class. Ask the children what they enjoyed most about the activity. Did they find anything too difficult.
