Position Title:Teacher, Alternative Programs

Assignment Level:Certified Professional

Direct Supervisor:Regional Administrator, Director of Special Education

Qualifications:Each teacher who is assigned to one of these alternative programs shall hold current Iowa Special Education Certification in either Multi-Categorical Special Education, Instructional Strategist I or II, or Behavior Disorders, as appropriate to the grade level of the students’ service.

General

Responsibilities: Essential Functions:

  1. Communicate effectively with teachers, administrators, support personnel, parents, professionals in the medical community and personnel from other community agencies.
  1. Promote a positive learning climate for individuals of all ages and in groups within the school, homes, hospitals, shelter facility, detention center and community.
  1. Establish and maintain community-school relationships to achieve and maintain continuity of educational programs for the children served.
  1. Provide an appropriate educational program for students. An IEP should be followed and/or developed for identified special education students.
  1. Regular attendance is required.

Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Assist and communicate with the staff employed by the Green Hills AEA and the educators throughout the AEA in a program directed toward the prevention, early identification and remediation of handicapping conditions.
  1. Assist the Green Hills AEA Administration regarding educational programs which would increase their efficiency and effectiveness.
  1. Promote an inservice education program directed toward a better community understanding of all instructional programs run by the AEA.

Specific

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Design and utilize an educational plan for new students which will serve two purposes: a) provide information relative to the student’s achievement level, and b) provide instruction of a general nature while information can be collected and general goals can be prepared for specific instruction.
  1. Treat information on a confidential basis and use discretion in determining which information is educationally pertinent.
  1. Facilitate development and monitor measurable objectives for the IEP.
  1. Maintain records regarding pertinent information which will facilitate transitions for a student’s placement
  1. Prepare and disperse reports appropriately that communicate with staff regarding progress if students.
  1. Provide a final written report to the supervisor at the end of the year.
  1. The teacher will assign and schedule daily duties of the paraprofessional.

Non-Essential Functions:

8. Inform the supervisor of needs of the instructional programs such as supplemental services, and have an appropriate working budget with which to order equipment and supplies necessary for the promotion of educational instruction.

Physical

Requirements:Ability to travel to serve itinerant caseload as may be needed.

Provisions of

Employment:The period of employment shall be for the number of days as specified by the adopted calendar with an understanding that additional days may be negotiated as determined by need.

Conditions of

Employment:The Teacher, Alternative Programs, shall be under contract with the Green Hills Area Education Agency Board of Directors and shall abide within and benefit from all directives, procedures, and policies developed by the Chief Administrator, the Director of Special Education, and the Regional Administrator.
