Location: Yerevan, Armenia
Job description: The Yerevan Zoo is currently seeking for a motivated individual to fulfill the position of Veterinarian.
The successful incumbent is expected to provide and maintain a complete program of veterinary care for the Yerevan Zoo.
Job responsibilities: The veterinarian responsibilities include but are not limited to the following;
1) Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
2) Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery.
3) Inoculate animals against various diseases; collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
4) Operate diagnostic equipment such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images. Put orders on necessary medicine and tools in a timely manner
5) Advise zoo keepers on sanitary measures, feeding, and general care necessary to promote health of animals, train and supervise workers who handle and care for animals.
6) Provide veterinary care to a wide range of animals and participate at rescue operations
7) Establish and conduct quarantine and testing procedures that prevent the spread of diseases to other animals or to humans, and that comply with applicable EAZA regulations.
8) Conduct postmortem studies and analyses to determine the causes of animals' deaths.
9) Others duties as prescribed by the director.
Required qualifications:
· Master’s degree in a related field, PH.D is preferable
· Knowledge of English is mandatory, knowledge of Russian is preferable
· DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary college/university
· Minimum 5 years of practical experience in veterinary medicine, preferably at an AZA/EAZA accredited zoo and/or wildlife rehabilitation center
· Experience working with a wide range of animal species
· Motivated and proactive personality
· Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
Remuneration/salary: EUR 600 per month+ bonuses from public services
Other details: Up to 3 months probation period required. Accommodation and travel expenses fully covered. Residence permits and other docs provided.
