Job title:Marketing Officer

Location:The Whitgift Foundation

Reports to:Clerk to the Foundation

Job Purpose:

To raise the visibility and presence of The Whitgift Foundation, Whitgift Care (the umbrella name for the three care homes) and the Carers’ information Service by carrying out an effective marketing plan in order to:

Promote the aims and ethos of The Whitgift Foundationinternally and externally across both local and wider communities.

Promote the range of care offered by the care homes and target the appropriate markets to ensure demand for places increases.

Identify new marketing and advertising streams relevant to the needs of the Whitgift Foundation, whilst supporting the specific homes, schools and Carers’ service as requested.

Promote all aspects of the Whitgift Foundation’s work and services to a wider and more diverse audience.

To support the three schools in their marketing and community profile needs whilst working closely with the school appointed Marketing managers.

Strengthen links with local media, creating articles and relevant publicity for Whitgift Foundation events and activities.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Website and other e-marketing communications

i) Create, collate and edit a Whitgift Foundation newsletter (Whitgift Foundation Focus) three times a year and distribute to both internal and external audiences.

ii) Regularly update the Whitgift Foundation’s website content, particularly the News and Events pages.

iii) Updatenews and information about theWhitgift Foundation through Twitter and other social networking sites.

iv) Provide ideas and input into the development of new marketingmethods (particularly electronic).

  • Marketing and publicity material

i) Write and produce marketing material (brochures,posters, flyers etc) for the Whitgift Foundationand Whitgift Care, liaising withrelevant staff to update website content as necessary.

ii) Compile a media plan, considering a wide range of publications relevant to the aims and ethos of the varied aspects of the Whitgift Foundation.

iii) Proactively search out information from the various establishments of the Whitgift Foundationfor PR purposes and writing press releases.

iv) Liaisewith, and provide information to, the media and arrange interviews where necessary.

v) Maintain and enhance a photo library, arranging photo-shoots and filming of locations, activities and events as required.

  • Advertising (printed media and new media)

i) Book andtrack advertising for the Whitgift Foundation and Whitgift Care as required.

ii) Develop creative input into new advertising.

iii) Liaise with the Whitgift Foundation’s nominated designers and printers.

iv) Undertake proofreading, copy writing, editing copy andinformation collection as required.

  • Exhibitions

i) Represent the Whitgift Foundation or Whitgift Care at exhibitions and other relevant marketing opportunities.

  • Events

i) Assist and/or co-ordinateWhitgift CareOpen Days and other Whitgift Foundation special occasions as required.

iii) Provide marketing support for the Development office alumni relationship-building events.

  • Market Intelligence:

i) Gather information on competitor care homes andprogrammes.

ii) Monitor information on the effectiveness of generated publicity, advertising, web searches etc for use in our own market analysis.

  • General:
  • To ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
  • To undertake any training and development as required.
  • To undertake any ad hoc projects as required.
  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as determined by the Clerkto the Whitgift Foundationthat reasonably fall within the scope of the role, assisting elsewhere within the Whitgift Foundation as required.

Qualifications / Relevant Degree or equivalent / CIM or IDM qualification or equivalent
Experience / Experience of writing creative copy / Experience in a similar marketing role
Journalistic experience
Skills and Knowledge / Ability to work autonomously and prioritise own work
Ability to work to deadlines
Ability to write effectively
Ability to express views clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Experienced user of Microsoft Office word-processing, spreadsheet and presentation packages
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, including high standards of written communication, grammar and spelling
Personal Qualities / Flexible and customer focused
A good team player with the ability to take responsibility for tasks and achieve results

There may be a requirement for occasional out-of-hours evening and weekend working for specific events and occasions (e.g. Whitgift Care Open Days) so flexibility of hours will be required.
