DRIVING ROUTE 1

$ Take I-10 east past San Bernardino to the Orange Street exit (SR 38).

$ Go north (left) 0.5 miles to Lugonia Avenue. Turn right on SR 38 (east).

$ Go about 8 miles to the Mill Creek Ranger Station. Continue on SR 38 another 3.0 miles to Kilkare Road. Turn right.

$ Go 0.4 miles to the locked gate to Mill Creek campground (abandoned). Park here.

HIKING ROUTE 1

$  Hike south past the gate and go across the creek to a pumping station.

$ Turn left and follow a poor road and then the streambed for 1/2 mile to where a second road fords the creek and goes east into a group of willow trees. Here, look for a concrete slab jutting from south creek bank and a gully coming to the creek bed at the hillside on your right (south). A track leads up to a ledge along some pipes. Scramble up to the ledge.

$

$ Go west on a trail about 100 feet passing the concrete slab. Here the trail enters a relatively open steep gully that goes south.

$ Ascend this gully. Take the right branch at major forks. Continue up to a firebreak at 4640'. (Mark your position carefully when exiting the gully, so you find it on the way back.) Go up the firebreak to the aqueduct trail.

$ Go right (southwest) on this trail to where it intersects a road on the ridge.

$ Turn left on this road and follow it east to near its high point at the base of Allen Peak.

$ Turn right (south) and go up a use trail to the summit.
