STaff Peer Awards Selection Committee Feedback / Debbie Smith was in attendance to provide feedback from her experience as a member of the Staff Peer Awards selection committee. Overall she felt it went smoothly, although some people had trouble selecting their ideal candidate.
Norman Kwong also provided feedback via email. His concerns included how selection committee members were notified of invalid nominations or how in some cases certain people lobbied for their “family” members too strongly.
Their feedback, as well as additional comments, will be taken into consideration for next year’s Staff Peer Awards.
Feedback on recognition of Staff Peer awardees / Under recommendation from VP Mike Lee, awardees from this year’s Staff Peer awards were recognized in their offices amongst their managers and colleagues. This was a different process from years past. Comments on this process included:
·  Some felt excluded if they were unable to attend, or unsure if they could attend.
·  Some offices, in which they did not have a recipient, were unaware that winners were being recognized.
·  Nominees may not have been formally recognized as much as they should have.
·  Liked it that AVPs from other offices attended outside family award events
·  Many preferred the intimacy of the awards and recipients often had more emotional and real responses
·  A poll of the awardees for their feedback will follow
This feedback will be considered for next year’s Staff Peer Awards.
ABa Newsletter / The Spring 2012 ABA Newsletter was published early May 17th, 2012. This issue had additional submissions from START member Jose Martinez, who helped write several of the stories in the news and green news sections, as well as provided several photos of Facilities Services staff.
The Editors of the FOCUS newsletter always appreciate additional story ideas and submissions.
A suggestion was made to send the Behind the Scenes Risk Management article to Kim Nava to possibly give greater publicity to the article and the Risk Management office.
Summer 2012 issue ideas:
·  CSU Facilities Services fall 2012 conference
·  Green News – Campus being recognized as “Tree Campus USA”
·  Send thank-you blog reminders
·  ABA staff summer plans/reading list
·  Softball game in Public Safety
·  ABA bowling league
Overall the Summer 2012 newsletter will be smaller, published more quickly, and will have a more lighthearted approach.
Report of Accomplishments / The 2010-2011 ABA Report of Accomplishments was published. Each START member received a copy.
This report had a new style, which focused on highlighting the people behind the accomplishments themselves. Future issues may take this idea a step further as well, with direction from VP Mike Lee.
Web Editors Meeting / The first Web Editors meeting was held in March. The meeting brought all of the web editors from each ABA office together to ask questions and provide feedback on any issues they have been facing using the WCM.
Andrew Stiffler, ABA’s Web Coordinator, went over several best practices, including editing images, naming conventions, organization of files, and overall understanding of the file structure.
New meetings will be scheduled as needed. Andrew and Sarah will begin to come up with potential agenda items for the next meeting, which may take place in the fall.
ABA Website Migration / An idea was suggested to feature WACUBO ELMI or BMI attendees on the carousel.
Working closely with IRT, the process to upgrade ABA pages from the “seafoam” look to “monet” are underway. IRT has collaborated with Sarah and put together a schedule for ABA website redesigns. The goal is to have all of ABA in Monet by the end of the calendar year. The next websites to be redesigned for Monet are BPA and Space Management.
redefine the possible / ABA families have been asked to identify one or two goals related to the Redefine the Possible initiative for the upcoming year. Staff provided feedback at May’s Staff Professionals meetings that will be shared with family heads.
start summer schedule / To accommodate summer vacation schedules, START will be on hiatus during the summer.
