Dear Parents/Guardians,

As a complement to our current unit on the celebration of Hispanic Heritage, all Spanish classes will be participating in a Hispanic Heritage Fiesta here at SCHOOL.  During this Fiesta, the students will have the opportunity to go on a “gallery walk” of their peer’s final projects, watch a short video about how unique all of the Spanish-speaking countries are and sample a few authentic foods/beverages. All together they will be enjoying food and sharing a cultural experience amongst friends.

Location: HMS Auditorium (during their designated Spanish class period)

Cost: $2.00

Catered by: Rico Pan Bakery (A Colombian Bakery here in town)

Permission Slip/Payment Due Date: Thursday, September 25th 2014

The following items will be served from the Rico Pan Bakery (please have your child circle 1 of the 3 options):

1. Empanadas de pollo (Pastry turnovers filled with chicken and seasonings, covered in a cornmeal dough and fried in vegetable oil)
2. Empanadas de carne (Pastry turnovers filled with ground meat and seasonings, covered in a cornmeal dough and fried in vegetable oil)
3. Pan de queso (A traditional Colombian bread made with tapioca flour and grated cheese in the inside)

In addition, we will also have Batidos (tropical fruit smoothies - please have your child circle one of the 2 options)

We are looking forward to this “Hispanic Hertitage Fiesta”! It is an excellent opportunity for the students to become acquainted with Hispanic food and its culture.

*If you are the parent of a 5th grader and would like to attend, we would love to have you! Please let us know if you will be attending in advance so that we can make proper accommodations and arrive at the school when your child has Spanish class, which is at 2:00 pm and report to the auditorium. Please note that you will need to submit an additional payment of $2 if you wish to enjoy the food and beverage with your child.
