PROGRAM SYNOPSIS

Counseling and Substance Abuse

Direct Supervision / Priority, daily program staffed by deputy sheriffs who provide discipline, counseling, and education by enforcement of policy, rules, and standards in order to promote respect, pro-social behavior and positive change.
A.A./N.A. / 12-step meetings open to all prisoners including Spanish-speaking
Roads to Recovery / In-Jail Drug Treatment Program for any man who will be here 30 days or longer (sentenced or unsentenced). Components include Life Skills, Relapse Prevention, Acupuncture, and Substance Abuse Prevention.
Resolve to Stop the Violent Project / Intensive program designed to teach men not to be violent. Components include Manalive (batterer intervention program), Community Theater Substance Abuse, Victim and Community Impact Groups, and Acupuncture
S.I.S.T.E.R. Program / A drug treatment program for women who will be in custody 30 days or longer. This program is currently available at CJ#8 only and is open to sentenced and pre-sentenced women.
AIDS Workshops / AIDS prevention, education, workshops, and support groups. Individual Counseling on HIV is provided upon request or through referrals and voluntary HIV testing is available to those who request it
Parenting / Course directed toward practical considerations that can improve parenting skills
Inmate Worker / Weekly Programs requiring inmates to clean their dorm areas in order to earn work time credits.
Garden Project / Program designed to teach basics of organic horticulture
Health & Nutrition / Covers fitness, proper eating habits, and other health concerns
Relapse Prevention / Course to help addicts identify trigger situations and develop tools for remaining clean.
Career Development / Weekly group to discuss and define career goals, develop proper attitude for work, identify skills and interest for training programs and create a plan for release.

Education Programs

GED / High School equivalency preparation, examination, and certificates
Adult Basic Education / Basic and vocational math; writing and grammar; study and practice of effective oral communication
ESL / Multi-level English classes for non-English speakers; instruction and discussion relating to job seeking, personal development, employment application preparation, and other projects.
EXCEL / Computer Lab that covers ABE, GED, College, Jobs, ESL & Career Exploration

Art Programs

Painting/Drawing / Basic techniques in drawing and painting
Creative Writing / Reading short stories and poetry, writing short stories and poems, and sharing with the class
Matting / Learning the technique of matting and framing art work.

Special Programs

Dorm Meetings / Frequent all-dorm problem-solving and information meetings led by deputy sheriffs.
Library Services / Rotation of books from CJ#7 Library throughout the dorms. Categories include science, literature, fiction, non-fiction, health, business, math, history, women, substance abuse recovery, and a wide range of multicultural issues.
Instructional Television / Films with corresponding group discussion led by staff. Topics to include education, employment, alcohol, drug abuse, family issues, pre-release.
Religious Services / Weekly Catholic, Episcopal, Muslim, Baptist, Methodist, Christian Science, Jewish, and Seventh-Day Adventist services.
Children’s Center / Weekly supervised parental visits with children in a classroom setting which combines visiting with parenting skills development. Facilitate by Prison Match.
