LocateMEUsability Questions

You will be given a series of tasks to try on the new Library search system Locate. We would like you to try the tasks below using the standard desktop version of Locate to familiarise yourself with the system.

We would then like you to repeat the task using your mobile device, if you are happy to do so, and to record any difficulties in the space provided on the sheet.

We will then ask some further questions as a group at the end.

The information you provide will be used to help with the development of a future mobile search interface and provide information about usability testing which will benefit future studies. Whilst individual quotes, comments or observations may be included in the final report, your details will remain anonymous at all times.

We are testing the interface not youso if something isn’t clear, please task us.

Testing tasks for LocateME

1) You want to find out if the Library has the book “Operations management” by Nigel Slack from your reading list. Can you check if the Library holds this book?

2) Can you tell us where in the Library the book is?

3) Can you tell us how many copies are out on loan?

4) If all copies of this edition were out on loan, can you see if there are any other editions available to borrow and if so how many editions?

5) Can you find a list of e-books on the subject of human resource management?

6) Please try to access one of these items

8) You need to find general journal articles on the subject of customer service training. Please can you use the Article Search tab to try to find some.

9) Please try to view one of the articles you have found.

10) You want to see what books you have out on loan. Please can you try accessing the My Account facility. You will need to login with your PC username and password.

We will using your feedback to create a mock up of a new mobile interface for future development. We will be contacting a smaller number of volunteers to do some additional testing. If you do not wish to be contacted about any further testing please let us know.
