Fishing for a Scholarship
(FFS) Details
Fishing for a Scholarship (FFS) will is a fully funded $2,500.00 (with $500.00 donations) donated by 5 area business women and men for a student wishing to continue their education after graduating from high school. Every individual or business that donates will have (2) 22”x 44” size business cards on displayed around the trout pond.
The FFS funds will be deposited in a tax free Education account in the parents or legal guardians name along with the recipient’s name. The parents, recipient or anyone else that wish to contribute to this account will also be able to do so at any time after the account is established.
After the recipient has graduated from High School and reached the legal age of 18 the FFS funds will become available to use for their continuing education. The recipient may use the funds in any trade, community, Jr. College, State or Private College as they see fit.
If the recipient dose not graduate from High School and decide not to continue their education the FFS funds will be frozen and remain in the FFS account until said recipient reaches the legal age of 25 years.
At the legal age of 25 the FFS funds will be available and paid out to the recipient of the FFS. At this point if the FFS funds were not used for a continuing education as designed the recipient will be liable for any and all applicable taxes owed to the local, state and the federal government.
Who is eligible to fish the Fishing for a Scholarship?
Any children from age new born to a senior in high school (18 years of age) the recipients are eligible to be registered to possibly win the scholarship. Mom, Dad, Grandparents or Legal Guardian’s may fish for anyone that cannot handle the fishing rod.
Registrations requirements are (one parent or legal guardian and the recipient) most fill out and complete a registration form. Even if you are (17 or 18 years) of age you must still have a parent or legal guardian with you and on the registration form. This registration form will only be available and filled out at one booth in the show and there will be no pre-registration allowed.
All adults will still be required to pay the $5.00 admission fee to attend the show, and all children under 13 years old will be admitted to the show free.
As the fishing pond is free to the public that attends the show you may fish it at any time during show hours if you wish. Please note if you choose to fish the pond without pre-registering and should catch a Brown Trout you will not be eligible for the (Fishing for a Scholarship) so take the time and register.

Fishing for a Scholarship Rules
1. The parent, Guardian and Recipients are registered and will receive Six (6) qualifying tags to be completed if you catch a tagged trout.
You are allowed to fish twice on any given day as the tags are color coded for each day of the show.
2. You show the qualifying tag to the attendee at the entrance to the trout pond and enter to fish (Do not give up the qualifying tag at this time).
3. You will spend five minutes trying to catch a Brown Trout in the pond ( If you catch a Brown Trout during you allotted time the fish master will take your tagand fill out the qualifying tag with your name, address, phone number and deposit it in the Old Bait Bucket).
4. If you do not catch a Brown Trout in the allotted five minutes, as you exit the pond are you will give up one qualifying tag for that day to the attendee at the exit.
5. If you have at least one tag in the Old Bait Bucket for the random drawing (you are eligible to win the scholarship) to be held on Sunday evening at the close of the show.
6. The winner will be notified by phone on Tuesday January 31, 2017 with the final Scholarship being presented to the winner on February 11, 2017 at the Michiana Walleye Associations monthly meeting.
