Principal- Eva O’Mara / Letters went home to kindergarten parents with the results from the iReady testing. This test is used to measure the student’s growth. Testing will occur again in December and May.
Third grade parents will see that students now receive letter grades.
Third grade parents also have the option to check Progress Book to see how students are doing.
The First Quarter ends 10/20.
Superintendent-
Joelle Magyar / Results have been released for the State Report Card. Our school district ranked 4th in the area and 10th in the state. More information to come in the school newsletter.
A phone survey will begin the Wednesday after elections. It will target 350 people. It will include registered voters in Brecksville and Broadview Heights and not be limited to parents of school age children. The goal is to gather information regarding a levy, all day kindergarten, facility usage, etc. The survey will consist of around 25 questions.
The teachers are still negotiating their contracts and continue to meet on a regular basis.
The school district is looking to go to the voters in 2017 for a new money levy. Volunteers are needed to help. The goal is to have something on the ballot in May, 2017.
A committee is being formed for facilities planning. The committee will discuss options such as renovations vs. new and if grade levels will be reconfigured.
The calendar survey is complete and the committee hopes to approve three school year calendars in January.
Our districts gifted program will be reviewed. Focus groups will meet to discuss social/emotional support and gifted vs. accelerated. Universal screening will still occur for second and fifth grades, but may be added for all students. More information will be available in February.
Student Advisory Club held their first meeting. The club is made up of two students from grades 4-12. Students were selected by the principal. Students will continue to meet and discuss issues until they graduate.
Council Delegate Report- Susie Patton & Jamie Bindra / Yuletide Program will run from 11/1-12/5
Secure Volunteer will provide background checks for volunteers. It is only necessary for parents that will be alone with students. Information is available on the board of education site under volunteers.
Committee Reports
Membership-
Susie Patton / Numbers are close to last year. Numbers will be provided at the November meeting.
School Supplies-
Karen Peterson / Kits increased to 160 kits from 144 kits purchased the previous year.
This year kits will include all items, including optional add ons. This should allow for less confusion at pick up.
STEM- Sarah Beebe / There will be a Family Brick 4 Kids night on 11/4 at the Middle School. An after-school session of Bricks 4 Kids will begin in November.
We are in a lottery for Young Astronauts Day at NASA.
Walking Club-
Ann Koepke / The Walking Club has started and so far, has 75 kids. Kindergarteners and second graders walk on Monday, first and third graders on Wednesday.
Metrohealth will donate pedometers.
New Business
Chess Club-
Any interest? Volunteers needed.
Kindness Initiative-
New socks are being collected with the help of the third-grade kindness club. As of today, 200 pairs have been collected towards the 350-pair goal. If the goal is met, Mr. Thacker will dress up as a bee for a day.
