Meeting Minutes

The Norman Park Elementary Local School Governance Team met on Thursday, May, 18th, 2017, at 12:00 pm. The meeting was held at Norman Park Elementary School, 249 Weeks Street, Norman Park, Georgia,in room 206.

Stacey Rutledge, Wendy Stuckey, Rodney Hurst, Jennifer Key, Michelle Daniels, Lia Baker, Rhonda Kelley,and Heather Roberts

  1. Call to Order

-Principal, Stacey Rutledge, called the meeting to order at 12:10 pm.

  1. Items from the Audience

-No items brought forth from the Audience.

  1. Approval of Agenda

-Stacey Rutledge distributed the agenda and read through its contents.

-The August 30th, 2017 agenda was approved by unanimous consent.

  1. Approval of Minutes

-Wendy Stuckey read the Meeting Minutes from the May 18th, 2017 meeting.

-The May 18th, 2017LSGT Meeting Minuteswere approved by unanimous consent.

  1. Principal’s Report

-Mr. Rutledge reviewed personnel announcements. Newly hired faculty and staff for the 2017-18 school years were listed for the committee members. Mrs. Julie Faison, Mrs. Rebecca Sands, Jasmine Garcia, Mrs. Kimberley Dove, and Leah White were all hired, as well as several new paraprofessionals.

-Mr. Rutledge discussed Finance and Resource Allocations with the committee. Chrome boxes have been ordered.

-Curriculum and Instruction werebriefly discussed. Mrs. Daniels and Mr. Rutledge spoke of upcoming intervention planning, as well as the new math curriculum, Bridges to Mathematics. Some teachers have concerns about the amount of time the Number Corner section of the lessons are taking in the classroom, as well as the content not being as in depth. Dream Box and i Station math interventions have been implemented throughout the grade groups. The interventions are split amongst the grade levels so each grade has evidence of what is working and improving mathematical progress in students. PBIS plans have changed this school year. Faculty and Staff will move to awarding students “Starbucks”, instead of the stars. Students will be able to spend their awarded “Starbucks” in a PBIS store at various times throughout the school year.

-Elections will occur for new upcoming and existing LSGT members at the next faculty and staff meeting held at Norman Park.

-Mr. Rodney Hurst expressed concerns about parent parking at Norman Park School. He feels there should be a discussion about extending parking areas for parents.

-Upcoming events were discussed with the group. A Title Imeeting will be held September 14th at Norman Park Elementary School. PTO movie night is scheduled for September 15th. The first PTO Meeting and the Bookfair will occur on October 5th. Parents are invited to attend.

-Local School Government Tentative Meeting dates are scheduled for 10-18-17, 12-13-17, 2-7-18, 3-21-18, 5-16-18
