Additional Information

Criteria for the Award

Applications will be evaluated on completion of all required sections, clarity and appropriateness of the proposed outcomes, and feasibility of the plan and budget. Departments who have larger lecturer populations will be given preference over those with only a few lecturers. Applications will be reviewed by an advisory committee coordinated by UCAT.

Funding

This money will be disbursed in two payments of up to $2,500 each semester, with the second payment coming only upon confirmation that the first semester’s plan has been executed to the satisfaction of UCAT. Awarded departments will also receive up to 10 hours of dedicated UCAT staff time to assist in the design, implementation, and assessment of their program.

An additional $1,000 will be available to each department to support a lecturer selected to coordinate (the “lecturer coordinator”) these efforts in conjunction with the faculty representative.

Departments who are awarded the grant will be permitted to apply again in subsequent years for a reduced amount (up to $2500), though priority consideration will be given to departments that have not previously won the grant.

Required Activities for Awarded Units:

  1. After the initial proposal is accepted, the departmental representative and the lecturer coordinator (if one is selected) will be required to meet with the UCAT staff member administering the program to review and refine their proposal at the beginning of the grant period.
  2. At the end of the first semester of the grant period, the departmental representative and lecturer coordinator (if one is selected) will be required to submit a 1-2 page progress report detailing the program’s efforts toward attainment of the originally stated objectives, including any changes made to the original plan. The submission of this report will coincide with a face-to-face meeting between coordinating UCAT staff and unit representatives. Successful completion of this task is required in order for the unit to receive their second installment of funds.
  3. The faculty representative and/or the lecturer coordinator will be required to attend a single 1-hr. group meeting for all awardees in the middle of the academic year to exchange strategies and challenges with the group.
  4. At the end of the second semester, the awarded unit will be required to submit a brief and concise summary the program including data about the program’s achievement of outcomes and ideas for improvement. The format of this summary is flexible (e.g. a multi-media blog post, a video, a website) and will be decided by the awarded unit in conjunction with UCAT. Submission of this report will coincide with a final face-to-face debriefing meeting with the coordinating UCAT staff member.
