CIBA Scrip Project

“Local Business Supporting Local Schools”

To: New Partnering Businesses in the CIBA Scrip Program

From: Colleen Dyrud, CIBA Administrative Assistant

Welcome to the CIBA Scrip Program! The following information will clarify some of the important points for you and your staff to know as your business begins accepting CIBA Scrip.

  1. CIBA Scrip cards will be sold by CIBA to the Corvallis Schools Foundation and private school scrip programs at 90% of face value. School volunteers then resell the cards to school supporters at full face value, and the schools keep the 10% difference.

The Scrip cards will be issued in three denominations: $1.00 (blue), $5.00 (yellow) and $10.00 (green).

Scrip is like cash. If it is lost or stolen before being used, CIBA cannot replace it or reimburse purchasers.

Customers can spend CIBA Scrip cards like cash in your business. They do not actually save any money using CIBA Scrip. However, by using the cards, they support local schools.

  1. Valid scrip cards are embossed with a circular CIBA stamp. Be sure to tell all employees to check for the embossed stampwhen a customer uses a scrip card.
  1. The scrip cards that are collected by your business should be delivered or mailed to the CIBA office (A & S Accounting, 316 SW Washington) once a month. You will be issued a check for 90% of the face value of the cards.
  1. CIBA Scrip cards are reusable. Please do not staple them or write on them.
  1. Each business that agrees to accept CIBA Scrip must decide on the policies that will affect the use of scrip in your business. On the back of each card is the statement: “Use of CIBA Scrip may be subject to policies of individual participating businesses.” Some things to consider include:

Will your business exclude any category of items, such as sale merchandise?

Will you give back cash for the difference in scrip or will you require the purchaser to use the entire amount?

CIBA Scrip buyers are advised to go to the CIBA website ( for an updated list of participating businesses. You may want to check your listing in the Scrip Program section of our website to make sure the information on your business is correct.

The CIBA Scrip Program is an excellent way for your business to support our local schools. We are confident that CIBA Scrip will raise CIBA’s profile in the larger community, and serve as both an effective marketing tool and method of philanthropy for participating businesses. Of course, this is an entirely voluntary program. Each CIBA member business may choose whether or not to participate. We do request that you commit to it for at least three months. If it does not seem to be worthwhile for your business, you may then choose to opt out of the program.
