Call to Order: Chairman Ben Richardson called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting: Chairman Richardson called for any corrections, deletions or additions to the minutes as written. After hearing none, he asked for a motion to approve the June 25, 2012, minutes. Upon appropriate motion and second, the minutes were approved.

Committee Reports

Academic Affairs

Mr. Gary Williams gave Dr. Linn Storey’s report in her absence:

·  Action Item: Approval/disapproval was requested by the Board for the Medical Skin Care Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) – (proposal included in Board packet).

The proposal was sent electronically to Board Members on August 14 for

their approval/disapproval in order to meet TCSG State Board deadline.

After a unanimous vote by the Board, the proposal was approved.

·  The College had the highest completion rate of Learning Support students in the system last year, 73%.

·  A Paralegal Articulation Agreement between CTC and California University of Pennsylvania was signed on July 23, 2012. This agreement will allow graduates to complete a BS degree in Paralegal Studies online.

·  The Air Conditioning Technology program is now an Alabama certified training program.

·  A Drafting-Manufacturing Prototype 3-D printer has been installed and faculty members have been trained.

·  The College hosted a group of six technical college instructors from Shunde Polytechnic located in Guangzhou, South China, July 21-August 5. The instructors are interested in learning about western teaching methodology in health science and technical services.

Student Affairs

Ms. Debbie Henshaw gave Ms. Tara Askew’s report in her absence:

·  Fall semester 2,580 students applied for admissions, 1,353 were admitted and enrolled.

·  Fiscal Year 2012, Financial Aid disbursed $16,369,327 in funds to students.

Administrative Services

Ms. Betty Jackson’s report included:

Ms. Betty Jackson gave the financial report; the report was accepted.

Operations and Information Technology

Mr. Tommy Wilson’s report included:

·  The new police vehicle for CTC police department has arrived and put in service. The College has four post-certified police officers.

·  Energy efficient air conditioning controls that were damaged by lightning have been replaced.

·  The fire alarm panel in Hartline Building has been replaced.

Information Technology

Mr. Jonathan Norred’s report included:

·  The IT Department is in the process of implementing the Everbridge service for sending announcements and emergency notifications to staff and students by text messages and emails.

·  The Cisco VCS Control and VCS Expressway have been purchased to integrate video and telephone systems together.

·  Computers for faculty and staff are being replaced and upgraded (Windows 7) on a daily basis.

·  The IT Department has an intern and a Federal Work Study student working in the department helping with the deployment of new computers.

·  A like-work program has begun in partnership with the CIS program. Students work alongside IT staff to receive real world experience.

Economic Development

Mr. James Loyd’s report included:

·  The Certified Manufacturing Specialist (CMS) class for Wounded Warriors at Ft. Benning is to begin the latter part of this month or the beginning of September.

·  Training will begin for 80 employees in CPR/First Aid at Kodak Polychrome.

·  The WIA Grant has been renewed with the Lower Chattahoochee Workforce Investment Board to deliver manufacturing-related training.

Foundation

Ms. Gloria Dodds’ report included:

·  The Foundation contributed $15,000 toward the TCSG State Board Meeting held on campus here in June and $3,000 toward the TCSG Leadership Conference to be held in Savannah in September.

·  The Foundation has received $155,000 in pledges or contributions to the 2012 CTC WORKS Investing in the Future annual campaign year to date. Cash on hand as of July 31, 2012 is $2,000,000+.

Ms. Cheryl Myers, Director of Communications, stated that a neighborhood landmark in North Columbus is back on its feet thanks to students and faculty in the Columbus Technical College welding program. The stag that stood at the entrance of The Preserve neighborhood was badly damagedinOctober of 2009. Mr. Ronnie McBride, ProgramManager, and his students took on the project in November and not only brought the stag back to its original splendor but alsoturned the ruined statue into a great learning experience for his students.

Mr. McBride was featured in an article today in the Columbus Ledger Enquirer newspaper.

The first Back 2 School BASH was held at the Robert L. Wright, Jr. Health Sciences Center on August 9. The event drew a huge crowd of potential students, friends, families,and kids of all ages. An estimated 400 people attended the event.

President’s Report

Mr. Bob Jones’ report included

·  President Jones discussed various brochures: CTC See Yourself Making A Difference; the history of the College; and TCSG Fast Facts and College Directory 2011-2012. These brochures will be used in an upcoming meeting with representatives from the Carl Vinson Institute who will be on campus in October for a planning session.

·  The Foundation is in the best shape it has ever been.

·  The TCSG Leadership Conference will be held in Savannah, September 24-26, 2012.

·  Commissioner Ron Jackson will be in town this evening to meet with President Jones for his annual evaluation.

·  We are still in uncertain times about the economy and state funding.

Adjourn: Since there is no other business for discussion, upon appropriate motion and second, the Board adjourned at 1:05 p.m. There will not be a meeting in September because of the Leadership Conference in Savannah, September 24-26, 2012. The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 22, 2012.
