LMS/CDMS Outdoor Sports Club Mr. Shaffer, Advisor
The Blue Ridge Sportsmans Club has once again (for the 20th year in a row) invited our members to a program to teach safe gun handling and safe shooting skills.
The program will take place on Tuesday May 17th from 6 PM until dusk (rain date Tues. May 24) at Blue Ridge Sportsmans Club at 1176 Fairville Ave., Piketown,17112. Directions to club—from the square in Linglestown follow Rt 39 9Linglestown Rd) toward CD High School. Go to the light at the CD High School and turn left on Piketown Rd. Follow Piketown Rd as it twists and turns toward the mountain. After you pass the Mt Laurel Picnic Park on your right, turn right onto Fairville Ave.Go ¼ miles or so and watch for a round white sign on the right. Turn right and go down the lane all the way to the bottom of the hill where there is a parking lot by the clubhouse.
We will do a brief program in the clubhouse on firearms safety, then we will use the 25 and 50 yard ranges for .22 rimfire rifle shooting (no centerfire rifles and no handguns) and the shotgun areas near the Wobble Trap for 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. EACH CLUB MEMBER MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT OR GUARDIAN – NO EXCEPTIONS!! You may bring your own shotgun or rimfire rifle if you wish. There will be “loaner” rifles and shotguns available—you will be expected to handle them safely and carefully. Remember, someone has been kind enough to loan you their gun and we expect you to show some consideration and care.
You need not bring .22 Long Rifle rimfire ammo—we will have plenty on hand. We will have shotgun shells on hand free of charge—thanks to the generosity of members of the Blue Ridge Sportsmans Club and the members of Hummelstown Field and Stream Club. The targets will be provided by the club free of charge.
You will be expected to follow range rules. If you refuse you will have to leave. There is no room on a shooting range for wild or unsafe behavior. I also insist that you treat our volunteer instructors with respect—they are volunteering their time and sharing their expertise and firearms with you. Everyone will be expected to wear eye protection and hearing protection. If you don’t have any we will provide you with some.
Any questions contact me at or my home phone at 545-5505 (evenings). I don’t have a cell phone—I’ll be the last guy in America to have one.
