CENTER FOR STUDENT INVOVLEMENT

The Center for Student Involvement is dedicated to promoting opportunities for student engagement and personal development through campus-wide involvement opportunities. The office serves to advise and coordinate programs in the areas of student organization services, Greek Life, community service, and communication and leadership development. We encourage committed co-curricular involvement as a means to augment and compliment students’ academic pursuits and personal enrichment.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The Graduate Assistant, under the work direction of the Associate Director and Student Organization Advisor, will assist on various projects within the student organizations and campus-wide events area of the Center for Student Involvement. The Graduate Assistant will be evaluated during the assistantship for the purpose of providing him or her with feedback on observed growth and learning. The Graduate Assistant will have the opportunity to develop in the following leadership areas: interpersonal skills, public speaking skills, facilitation skills, communication skills, contract writing, time management skills, organizational skills, event planning skills and delegation skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist thewith development, implementation, and evaluation of the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and the Center for Student Involvement End of Year Banquet
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Public Conversations Project
  • Develop curriculum for weekly leadership trainings for the Student Involvement Leadership Consultants team of 16 students
  • Facilitate weekly trainings during SILC team meetings
  • Work with CSI Staff to improve the student org online event planning system
  • Participate in weekly area, assessment, and one-on-one meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have/maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA for graduate courses during employment.
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 units in a student personnel or related program during the academic year.
  • Must demonstrate commitment and follow-through on projects.
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized, communicative and dependable.
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED

  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to details.
  • Interest in making public presentations and facilitating topics independently.
  • Must have the ability to interact with diverse students and staff with equity and civility.
  • Must demonstrate ability to assess student learning outcomes and prepare reports.
  • Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Preference for having some knowledge of program evaluation, data systems, and analysis.
  • Strong familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, preferred experience with online resources (i.e. Google Calendar, Documents) and survey software.
