PPG meeting on Wednesday 29th November 2017 at 6.45 at Little Waltham
1)
Apologies
BC, PL, VW, AW, GC, KG, LH
In attendance: RS, JO, HM, RB, BL & SB
2)
Minutes of the meeting on 24.08.17
No points raised
3)
Minutes from the AGM/Open Meeting on 01.11.17
RS asked for any points to be discussed from the above meeting.
HM mentioned that Juliet gave a thorough and interesting talk regarding medical waste.
There were more attendees than usual which is a positive sign. If the numbers were to increase we could consider hiring the local village hall for a small fee. Good to see the patients supporting the surgery. Having external bodies there ie. Braintree Community Transport gave an interesting speech. It was a successful meeting.
4)
Practice Matters
BL mentioned the TV screens were being installed in the surgeries this week. They would be able to advertise health promotions in the surgery and local businesses also. We will in time also be able to add notifications if the doctors were delayed or running late.
Wifi should be installed by March/April 2018.
JO mentioned it will tidy up the walls and it’s good to have information on the screens, easier to read.
HM mentioned opening it up to ‘care groups’ so patients are aware of what allowances or entitlements they may entitled to.
BL said they should be up and running by the next meeting.
BL spoke about the website, we have a new company we will be using. It will be more user friendly and there may be a page for the PPG to use if they wish. Although change and context will be managed by the surgery.
Dr Reith is going on maternity leave in February and Dr Onen will be covering her maternity leave, which is good continuity.
5)
Beaulieu Park
RS composed a letter to be sent to local MP’s regarding the proposed bid. He thanked RB, BC, JO & VB for their input and assistance. JO will read through and amend where necessary. It is not expected that the decision will change but to make them aware of our views and concerns regarding how it has been dealt with.
Questioned the legitimacy of the bid by Beacon Health Group, the requirement for public procurement may have been broken. BL advised the LMC are also looking in to this. Feedback from patients on the Danbury and Mountbatten websites isn’t the best. Many have now registered with the North Springfield practice.
With new housing and an increase in new patients could Beacon health group support this?
New developments often fund a residents committee, did we know if the new Channels or Beaulieu park had one?
6)
NAPP
RS advised of the new log on for the website.
The PPG awareness week is again in June 2018 and it can be discussed at the next meeting if it needs to be attended.
7) Any other matters
RB spoke about the PPG newsletter and will ask a partner to make a contribution regarding funding pressure.
RS to update the committee list and circulate.
RB will speak to Lena Rooker (HCA) for a profile interview for the next newsletter.
HM raised the issue of this being RS last year as Chairman of the PPG. A new chairman will be elected at the next AGM and would need to be proposed and seconded.
It was suggested that a mini profile on RS be prepared for the newsletter re: a replacement Chairman.
Ann Ackland has sadly resigned from the committee
RS has written to Ikram Ismael to ask whether or not she wishes to continue on the committee but hasn’t had a reply.
It was suggested that members are required to attend 3 of the 4 meetings per year unless a valid excuse for missing. The committee really needs committed members.
HM advised that in Pleshey they are in the process of funding and getting together a care group. They have had many volunteers which is positive. Great Waltham has its own thriving care group.
This is very good to help older residents who may be housebound or just lonely in an ageing catchment.
The next meeting is scheduled for 07.02.18 at Great Notley surgery at 1.30pm
S Bull 05.12.17
